CONCERT REVIEW: Destruction – Whiplash – Enforcer – Crisix Live at KK’s Steel Mill

There’s an A4 sized piece of paper gaffer taped to the wall inside KK’s Steel Mill tonight.

WARNING – TONIGHT IS GONNA BE FUCKIN LOUD

 

A sign that, to everyday folk, might seem a little worrying but to everyone congregated here on this cold October evening, it’s positively reassuring. The world might be in a horrible state currently but at least some things can be relied upon. The mood in the venue is positive, the drinks are flowing and even the merchandise stand is selling their wares at affordable prices. It’s going to be a good night.

INTERVIEW: Mark Tremonti on Frank Sinatra, Raising Money for Charity, and Alter Bridge and Creed News

Ghost Cult had the honor of chatting with Mark Tremonti of Tremonti, Alter Bridge, and Creed fame on the eve of the release of his new solo album – Tremonti Sings Sinatra! The album is not only a smashing covers album paying tribute to “The Chairman of The Board” – Frank Sinatra, but also with a mission to raise money and awareness of The National Downs Syndrome Society. Mark discussed his inspiration for this project – his daughter, his lifelong obsession with Frank Sinatra, his love of Jazz, how he chose the songs, working with Sinatra’s former bandmates and producers, a potential sequel to the album, and updates on both Alter Bridge and Creed!

With this repertoire of music projects, this album is still probably the last thing anyone expected from the man. ALBUM REVIEW: Udo Dirkschneider – My Way

When one thinks of that classic heavy metal voice, the musings often land on the great Mr. Udo Dirkschneider. His is that voice: the sandpaper over rusted metal, the two-pack-a-day unfiltered Pal Mal smoker of the 1940s, the male version of Mama in Throw Mama From the Train; to wit, Udo Dirkschneider is sultry. So it is with delicious aplomb that Mr. Dirkschneider has graced the metal community with a new album. My Way (Atomic Fire Records) is one hour and five minutes of lovingly crafted cover toons in which that voice croons and barks and puts nails on a chalkboard through classic metal, pop, and yes, even classic standards from 1968 and 1969. I would be remiss if I did not mention forthwith that I have been enamored with Udo Dirkschneider since his Accept days and many of the songs and artists he covers are among my favourite.

In 1981, after just four years and two studio albums, the limitations of Iron Maiden‘s fiery frontman Paul Di’Anno had already become terminal issues. Cracking under the pressures of touring, his performances erratic and his passion dwindling, the struggling singer had begun down a road of drug and alcohol dependency and was simply unable to give the band what they needed to take that next big step.

My Ruin Releases Covers Album, New Video for “My Way”

Returning from an extended self-imposed hiatus, My Ruin celebrated Valentine’s Day by releasing a new covers album Rock Love & Red Lipstick. Released as a free download on Bandcamp, the covers range from Black Flag, PJ Harvey, Eric B and Rakim, KISS, Plasmatics, Van Halen, AC/DC, Soft Cell, Frank Sinatra, and many more. My Ruin went on hiatus when it’s main conspirators Tairrie B (Manhole, Tura Satana), and Mick Murphy (Heavy Seventies, Chevy Metal, Teenage Timekillers) moved from Los Angeles to Nashville. My Ruin’s last release was 2012’s The Sacred Mood. Tairrie has been busy of late releasing her out of print albums with other bands to Bandcamp, writing her highly-anticipated memoirs, and pursuing future musical projects, photography and video directing.
