Joey Jordison of Slipknot and Jon Zazula Get Snubbed by The Grammy Awards’ “In Memoriam” Segment


With all the excitement The Grammy Awards provide every year, Metal fans are always reminded we matter less than Pop stars. While a great standalone tribe acknowledged Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away at 50 on March 25th, the televised portion of the Grammy Awards ceremony’s “In Memoriam” segment omitted mention of Metal legends Joey Jordison of Slipknot, and Jon Zazula founder of discoverer of Metallica and founder Megaforce Records. Also omitted, Moody Blues co-founder Graeme Edge. The Recording Academy listed those left out ofthe broadcast along with several hundred other musicians and industry leaders that passed away on the Grammy.com web site under the “The Recording Academy Remembers The Music People We’ve Lost: Grammy In Memoriam” section. The 64th Grammy Awards took place Sunday, April 3, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and were broadcast live on CBS, and hosted by Trevor Noah. In This Moment, Body Count, Code Orange And Power Trip Among the Nominees For The 63rd Grammy Awards.


 

Metal mainstays such as In This Moment, and Body Count, while upstarts Code Orange and modern legends Power Trip were among the “Best Metal Performance” nominees at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards, which will be broadcast in HDTV and 5.1 Surround Sound on the CBS television network on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. The 63rd annual Grammy Awards will be hosted by “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah. Last year’s best Metal Performance award went to Tool, honored with a Grammy in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards, which was held on January 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Tool was nominated for “7empest”, a track from its 2019 album Fear Inoculum. Other related nominees include Beastie Boys and ZZ Top in the film category and Bill and Ted 3 for multi-media.

Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Red Hot Chili Peppers To Perform At ‘Global Goal Live’ Concert In September 2020


In 2020 Metallica has announced they will take part in the Global Citizen’s 10-hour “Live Aid”-style concert event happening on September 26, 2020 on five continents: Central Park in New York, Lagos in Nigeria, and to-be-announced cities in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. The event will be the culmination of a yearlong campaign dubbed “Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream” that will benefit United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals with aims at ending extreme poverty and tackling climate change.
