ALBUM REVIEW: Puddle of Mudd – Welcome to Galvania

Music is an integral part of most of the world’s human population. I know for me, music is like oxygen, I fear I would wither up and die without it. If you are like me, one of the great disappointments in your life is when you realize you may never hear music from one of your favorite bands again. Case in point, Puddle of Mudd. Full disclosure, the band’s 2001 Mega-hit album, Come Clean (Flawless Records) was the soundtrack of my life for many moons. I cannot hear ‘She Hates Me’ or ‘Blurry’ without being whisked backward in time to moments where life seemed simple and happiness is all I knew. I cannot express the jubilation I felt when I opened my email and realized that I had been given a gift from the heavenly gods of Rock and Roll, the new album by Puddle of Mudd. ALBUM REVIEW: Blacktop Mojo – Under The Sun

Every once and while I am sent a new album and I find myself checking to see if it was sent to me by the C.I.A. or the F.B.I. because the music is so mind-blowing, it must be highly guarded national secret. Such is the case with the new album by Blacktop Mojo, Under The Sun (Self-Released) The tertiary album by the Southern Rock dynamo’s is a secret that should not be kept, cannot be kept, from the music-loving populous. There are just some bands that a person has to see whenever there is an opportunity, plain and simple. I made the mistake of not going to a concert in 1993, citing that I would see them next time, well, there was no next time. Since that moment in history, I rarely miss the shows of bands that are meaningful to me. One of the bands that I have on my must-see list is (Hed) P.E., I am hoping they are on your list too. I love Metal music, my name is Skullgurl Metalchick after all. Full disclosure, I am still a sucker for the music of the Glam Metal days. The sub-genre had many aliases, Hair- Metal, Cock Rock, Bubble Gum Rock, depending on who you ask. The last couple of years there has been a renewed interest in the bands of the era of hair, I call it Nostalgia Rock. The headbangers of the 1980s now have 401ks, disposable incomes and the silent yearning to connect with the carefree days of youth. In all reality, most of these bands, are content to do some festivals and then go back to their own suburban democracy. Then there are bands like Spread Eagle, that did not go gentle into that good night of musical obscurity. Skillet – Victorious

Music, to some people, is like oxygen, they feel they would never be able to survive without the music of their favorite bands. Music can also be a time machine, whisking the listener back to the exact moment, and the exact feelings as the very second they first heard that certain song. Music bridges all perceived obstacles, healing the wounded and speaking to all humankind, no matter what a person’s native language is. Then there are people who turn to the music of their favorite band for inspiration, guidance, strength and sometimes the fortitude to keep going forward in life. Skillet’s newest studio album, Victorious (Atlantic Records) is proof positive why the music of this band is a lighthouse beacon helping souls that have lost hope navigate the tumultuous, unforgiving sea known as life. SINthetik Messiah – Black Sheep

My mother always told me to not judge a book by its cover. I have always tried to heed the words of my wise Madre’, but sometimes in doing music reviews I consign to oblivion that idiom. Case in point, when my editor sent me the new single by SINthetik Messiah, Black Sheep, I was tad incredulous. My feelings stemmed from seeing the heading on the Soundcloud link, #cajun industrial bass. I had never, in all my Skullgurl years, have encountered a musical group described as this. I started reading the bands press release, and SINthetic Messiah is described as Cajun electronic/industrial bass there also. Doll Skin – Love Is Dead And We Killed Her

I just love getting new albums to review, seriously, hearing new music pouring out of my earbuds exhilarates me like nothing else. I almost feel like I have stumbled into a secret treasure trove that the world has yet to experience.
