Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals played a surprise show the other night in Brooklyn September 18th at Saint Vitus Bar. The tiny club held the Pantera/Down/Superjoint/En Minor/Scour legend performed a set of his solo work from The Illegals and Pantera classics he has been performing of late. Philip Anselmo Expresses Interest in a Down Reunion for 2020


In a new interview with Metal Underground, Philip Anselmo has expressed interested in a Down reunion in 2020/. Next year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Stoner Doom supergroup’s (Pantera, COC, Crowbar, EyehateGod) debut album Nola (East/West). Anselmo, whose 51st birthday was yesterday June 30th, also shared that any Down reunion must include Kirk Windstein who left the band several years ago to concentrate on Crowbar, be respectful of the many members’ projects, as well as his lack of interest in his Superjoint project any longer. The awful racially motivated shootings at a Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand on Sunday(3/17) sent a shockwave through the world. As a result of the high emotions surrounding the incident, the New Zealand dates of the Phil Anselmo And The Illegals Thrash Blast Grind Tour with King Parrot were canceled, stemming from past issues with Anselmo. Nonetheless, Phil and his peers will put on the second show in Sydney at Frankies Pizza by The Slice on April 1st since the March 31st show sold out. Pantera Teases Far Beyond Driven 25th Anniversary Vinyl


1990s Metal legends Pantera have released a teaser via their official Facebook page, promoting a vinyl reissue of their classic 1994 album Far Beyond Driven (East-West). The band is promoting an early sign-up mailing list link in their post, you can use below. The Twenty-Fifth anniversary of its release is coming up on March 22nd! Famously, Far Beyond Driven was the first ever Metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard charts and Pantera’s only #1 album. It spawned four rock and metal charting hit singles in ‘I’m Broken’, Black Sabbath cover ‘Planet Caravan’, ‘5 Minutes Alone’ and ‘Becoming’. It is arguably their best album and the one that cemented their legacy forever. No word yet if the group is preparing any other surprise releases or content. Pantera members and brothers “Dimebag” Darrell Lance Abbott and Vinnie Paul Abbott have now both passed on, Dime in 2004 and Vinnie Paul last summer. Continue reading

Phil Anselmo has created a brutal new song for the theme song of Slayer’s Tom Araya’s upcoming “Hair Metal Shotgun Zombie Massacre” project! Directed by Joshua Allan Vargas, who has worked on music videos for Down, Soil, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals and Warbeast, the film is about a hair metal band that, while struggling to find its own identity, decides to record its first full-length album is a creepy cabin located in the middle of a notorious cemetery. Written by Joshua Allan Vargas and Jvstin Whitney, based on a story by Jvstin Whitney, “Hair Metal Shotgun Zombie Massacre ” features cameos by Araya, Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God) and David Vincent (Morbid Angel).
