We caught up with Willie Adler of Lamb of God to discuss their new album “Omens” – (Epic Records). We chatted about the last few years of the band, incorporating new sounds into their style, and the impact drummer Art Cruz made on this album. Then we did a track-by-track breakdown of the album, in which Willie opened up about the band’s songwriting process, and much more!
At this stage in their career, Lamb of God can pretty much do what they want, when they want. And the Virginianatives have found a winning formula with their sound, which has been honed over nearly thirty years since they began life as Burn The Priest. Since the name change at the beginning of the millennium, Lamb of Godhave proven themselves as one of the premier contemporary metal bands, progressing from their earlier more death metal style, into the kings of modern groove metal, which has seen multiple Grammy nominations and some almighty tours including this year’s monster outing with Megadeth, Trivium and In Flames, which they are about to follow up with the likes of Killswitch Engage, Baroness, Spiritboxand Suicide Silence in support. Did you daydream as a kid? Just stare off into nothing and let your imagination run wild? I did. A lot of my early childhood was spent amazed at what my mind could cook up with if I had a lack of books or toys, and before my soul was captured by music. Laying on my back in the grass, seeing shapes in the clouds or constellations at night, that was pure happiness as a kid. I never really stopped chasing that vibe as an adult, because I still drift off and let my brainwaves go crazy. Expect nowadays my field is my headphones and a turntable, and the clouds my mind is chasing down are inside of my eyelids, and not the sky.
