Dee Snider Affiliated Petition for AC/DC to Play the SuperBowl has Nearly 30K Signatures!

As we previously reported, Heavy Metal legend Dee Snider has helped launch a Change.org petition to get the NFL to hire classic rock legends and recently reunited AC/DC to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime show. Originally started by a fan, Gina Di Lecce, the petition grew from fan outcry and Dee’s criticism on social media following this year’s halftime show performance from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Heavy music is used constantly in sports, especially the NFL. Famously rock and metal bands such as Metallica, Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold, and Guns N Roses (2020) have all performed on the NFL’s pre-game concert the day before. Anyone performing at the big game performs for free and must pre-record and lip-sync their performance, which is why some groups like Metallica have said definitely no to performing, while The Red Hot Chili Peppers infamously made fun of themselves lip-synching in 2014, with Flea being the most notorious culprit. They also were a guest of Bruno Mars and not a headliner themselves that night. The last real rock act to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime Show was The Who in 2010. in 2009. Anyway, sign the petition and let’s unite for rock and metal at The SuperBowl!

Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider Launches Petition for AC/DC to Play the SuperBowl Halftime Show

Heavy Metal legend Dee Snider has launched a Change.org petition to get the NFL to hire classic rock legends and recently reunited AC/DC to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime show. This sprung from Dee’s criticism on social media following this year’s halftime show performance from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Dee didn’t find fault as much with the artists but the insulting lack of rock or metal. Heavy music is used constantly in sports, especially the NFL where both ‘Hells Bells’ by AC/DC and Metallica’s ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ were heard early in the broadcast. Famously rock and metal bands such as Metallica, Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold and this year Guns N Roses have all performed on the NFL’s pre-game concert the day before. Anyone performing at the big game performs for free and must pre-record and lip-sync their performance, which is why some groups like Metallica have said no, while The Red Hot Chili Peppers infamously clowned around and made fun of themselves lip-synching. Anyway, sign the petition and let’s unite for rock and metal at The SuperBowl!

Mike Patton Cancels NFL Appearance Due To Illness

Mike Patton (Faith No More, Dead Cross, Mr. Bungle, Mondo Cane, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, Fantômas) was slated to sing the US National Anthem ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ yesterday before the Dallas Cowboys versus the Los Angels Rams NFL Playoffs game. Sadly, at the last-minute, Patton canceled due to illness. Too bad since Patton is a legend and it would have been rad to see him sing in a more traditional setting. Get well soon Mike! We hope you get another shot someday.

Metallica Hardwired To Self Destruct album cover ghostcultmag

On the heels of dropping their new video for their single ‘Hardwired’ earlier today, Metallica has now released the full information and track listing for their new album. The album was produced by Greg Fidelman, (Slayer) who engineered 2009’s Death Magnetic album.

Lars Ulrich commented about the album:

“Has it really been eight years? Doesn’t feel like it! Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. We’re obviously beyond psyched to share new tunes with all our friends out there. We’ve been rockin’ along in the studio with Greg on and off for the last 18 months firing up the creative engines again. Putting new music out there, getting in your faces once again and all that comes with it is what we love to do more than anything else, so strap yourselves in … INCOMING!”

‘Hardwired’ was played for the first time earlier today during a live remote broadcast from Metallica’s HQ in the Bay Area. During an interview with Minneapolis rock station 93X discussing the band’s performance at U.S. Bank Stadium on August 20th, Lars Ulrich stunned 93X’s Pablo by premiering the track. ‘Hardwired’ will be delivered as an instant download to fans who pre-order the album.

Metallica also premiered the official video for “Hardwired” today.

Metallica will perform this Saturday, August 20th, at U.S. Bank Stadium – the new home of the Minnesota Vikings. The band’s performance will be the first rock concert at the venue and tickets sold out in less than 10 minutes. Adelitas Way – Getaway

Adelitas Way - Getaway album cover 2016 ghostcultmag

Adelitas Way has always been an above average band. Solid albums, big shows, and a few high-profile hits (WWE/NFL/TV shows) to build houses on and get some occasional bottle service at the club now and then. Live is where the band has thrived, playing big tours and festivals, often upstaging their peers. They have always had the big hooks and catchy songs, no problem. I had always felt what was holding the band back from being truly great was that their albums didn’t sound “live enough”. The best rock albums have a loose feel with big sounding driving tunes. Adelitas Way may finally have hit this 1-2 combo correctly with their new album Getaway (The Vegas Syn/The Fuel Music).

From the sway of the of lead single ‘Bad Reputation’, there is a breezy quality along with the bad boy brooding that you can feel. Always a band to bring monster chorus parts, Getaway has plenty of ear-worm moments. But what it does best musically is sizzle like bacon in bridges and pre-chorus parts that builds the tension. The title track is badass little declaration. Singer Rick DeJesus could basically sing the phone book and it would rule, but seems out to prove something on this one. ‘The Good Die Young’ is one of their best songs to date. A hard rock anthem that is powerful, bluesy, and deep all at once. ‘Low’ has as another good groove and a hummable melody made for summer time.

‘Put You In Place’ has a great bunch of riffs. Robert Zakaryan doesn’t get mentioned often enough with the big name riffers, but this guy has the chops. ‘Filthy Heart’ is another rager. It’s been out for about year since it was the best track on the Deserve This EP, along with a few other tunes that popped up on this album too.

Some tracks go a bit flat-out alt rock on us, but it’s a fine line for the band who sometimes would rather jangle more than crush, guitar-wise. Overall Getaway is the most satisfying album the band has made. Props to the band for their perseverance with the material and Johnny K for working that magic on the tracks.

8.5/10
