ALBUM REVIEW: Within Temptation – Bleed Out

More so than many records, the eighth full length studio release from symphonic metal act Within Temptation serves as a perfect snapshot of current times. A combination of the ongoing recovery process from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the way that modern presentations of popular music consistently change and mutate, by the time Bleed Out (Force Music Recordings) finds its way into your grubby little paws, seven of its eleven songs will already have been released into the world of Spotify and YouTube.

LIVESTREAM REVIEW: Within Temptation – The Aftermath Streaming Event

In the absence of live shows as we know them, Dutch symphonic metal act Within Temptation have taken the idea of playing a simple online gig and moved it up a level, giving fans the full virtual reality sci-fi treatment. Instead of performing on a stage in an empty room, the band have produced something much more visually stimulating, creating not only a sequence of lavish futuristic sets but a fully functional wraparound storyline detailed ahead of each separate section by the disembodied head of a digitally constructed android.

Annisokay Streaming “Carry Me Away” Music Video

German metalcore outfit Annisokay is releasing their album Enigmatic Smile on April 14, 2015 via Long Branch Records/SPV, and is streaming the song and video for “Carry Me Away” here.

ANNISOKAY said about the song and video,

“Like every other ANNISOKAY video in the past, we decided to produce this one by ourselves too, so our guitarist and singer Christoph took the part of the director. The story of the video is pretty much connected to the lyrics of the song. Everyone has to part with a loved thing at least one time in life, so everyone has to learn how to let go and look ahead instead of being stuck to the past. If someone leaves you or even passes away, you’re often scared to forget about him or even ‘hurt’ him if you start to go on with your life and maybe get to know new people. The long road of letting go is often difficult to pass and is visualized in the video of ‘Carry Me Away’ by showing the protagonist taking a long and dangerous travel. He is carrying a wooden, locked box with him, which contains all the past things and memories he’s cling to. The box needs to be taken to a safe, far and unknown place, before he’s finally able to leave it behind. We won’t tell you now where this place is, but we can already say that the shoot brought the whole team to their physical limits. We shot in places where one wrong step could have been fatally. The hard work was definitely worth it!”

6’7″ front man Dave Grunewald stands as the obelisk of this quintet better known as ANNISOKAY. His screams are unrelenting and guttural, perfectly interweaving with the heartfelt melodic vocals of guitarist Christoph Wieczorek. It’s a perfect juxtaposition, and with guitarist Philipp Kretzschmar, bassist Norbert Rose and drummer Daniel Hermann as the behemoth musical backbone. It’s only a matter of time until ANNISOKAY make the foundations of venues tremor worldwide.

ANNISOKAY grabbed the attention of metalcore production royalty Joey Sturgis and Will Putney (Miss May I, We Came as Romans, Upon A Burning Body, The Amity Affliction) who went on to produce Enigmatic Smile. The band headed to North America to record the album, where they recorded the album in two phases.. The album is home to 11 solid tracks by a band who are paving the way for a new generation of heavy music, and inevitably marking a new place for Germany on the musical map.
