King’s X Hit Record “Dogman” Turns 25 Years Old


The early-to-mid 1990s was a wild time for heavy music. With the Seattle bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana blowing up and killing off a lot of hair metal bands, and Metallica and Pantera dominating, and death and black metal gaining steam and mainstream success, other kinds of rock bands struggled to cut through. King’s X already had four albums out by the time Dogman (Atlantic) landed in shops. Their heavy rock flirted with metal, but really they have always bucked trends and classifications. Interpreting their influences and their bare lyrics full of religious symbolism and metaphors have earned them a legion of fans and lengthy career worthy of respect. Continue reading

Led Zeppelin’s Debut Album Turns 50


Led Zeppelin has few peers on record in their fiery but brief career. Born from the crowded blues-rock wave, post-British Invasion 1960s, the band expertly and cleverly guess the tastes and whims of the growing music world and capitalized on them. Long gestated in Jimmy Page’s brain as a way to create his own band with a distinct identity that could touch many music bases, but not be commercial and weak. Page created Led Zeppelin and the album Led Zeppelin I (Atlantic) on the back of years of writing, planning, and plotting. The marriage of Jimmy Page’s writing and Robert Plant’s voice, in particular, is the secret sauce of the album and the early era of the band and what makes their debut one of the all-time greats. Watch Halestorm’s Live VR Performance Videos For “Black Vultures” And “Vicious”


Rockers Halestorm are currently on tour in the USA with In This Moment and New Years Day. The band just released a virtual reality clip (VR) of live performances of ‘Black Vultures’ And ‘Vicious’. The clip was created this summer at a show at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut, was shot with a multi-rig VR camera system with director Craig Ziogas and producers Mike Mushok (Staind, Saint Asonia) and Charlie Callahan. Both tracks come from taken from Halestorm’s recent album, Vicious, which was released on July 27 via Atlantic Records. The disc was recorded last year at Nashville, Tennessee’s Rock Falcon studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz.
