Frank Zappa Tribute Beer Released For His Birthday

“Why Does It Hurt When Ipa?” the cleverly titled new IPA beer tribute to Frank Zappa, has been released by the Zapp Trust and Duck Foot Brewing Co for his birthday, today December 21st. In true Zappa improvisational fashion, the brewed with ZAPPA hops, Simcoe and Cascade. The West Coast-style IPA has notes of passion fruit, spice, and grapefruit (a favorite of FRANK ZAPPA’s) with a clean and dry finish. The can features never-before-published photos of Frank which pair nicely with the beer itself. In addition, the label explains more, “the Zappa hop, like the man, has a hugely eclectic style. Published flavor notes have ranged from passion fruit, mint, spicy, savory, fruity cereal, and uh…purple. (Try the beer, you’ll get it). “Bill and Ted Face The Music” (Bill and Ted 3) May Skip The Theaters and Go Straight to Home Video Due to Coronavirus

We have been tracking a film release close to metalheads’ blackened hearts, Bill and Ted Face The Music, aka, Bill and Ted 3! Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and near-total shutdown of the movie industry, according to Screen Rant Bill & Ted Face the Music could skip theaters and go straight to VOD (video on demand). Thirty years after their original “excellent adventure”, Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves are set to return as slacker rock heroes Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan in a third Bill & Ted movie. Of course, the last Bill & Ted movie itself came out way back in 1991, so it’s been nearly a three-decade absence from the big screen for the famed characters. In Face the Music, the founding members of epic rock group Wyld Stallyns are now middle-aged, and have still not fulfilled their destinies by saving the universe through rad guitar solos. With their young daughters in tow, Bill and Ted now embark on yet another adventure, this time trying to find the greatest song ever written. Fans have longed to see Winter and Reeves back together on the big screen for thirty long years, but now it seems there’s a chance that Face the Music will not make it to theaters at all. CNN reported on Hollywood’s struggle to get on with its release schedule as things begin reopening after the lockdown, and quoted entertainment research analyst Jeff Bock as explaining why he thinks the third Bill & Ted movie is likely to see a digital release instead of heading to theaters in August as planned:Continue reading

Alex Winter’s Frank Zappa Documentary to Debut at South By Southwest

Alex Winter (Bill and Ted 3, The Lost Boys) will finally premiere his long in the works Frank Zappa documentary at South By Southwest (SXSW) 2020, according to a published report by Rolling Stone. The festival takes place in Austin, Texas, between March 13th and March 22nd. Although Zappa has been the subject of many films, Winter’s movie is unique in that it covers the artist’s entire life; he had access to the Zappa family’s vault of uncirculated and rarely seen footage. The film will include commentary from Frank, his wife Gail, his one-time “stunt guitarists” Steve Vai and Mike Keneally, Mothers of Invention members Ruth Underwood, Ian Underwood and Bunk Gardner, and GTOs member Pamela Des Barres, among many others. Winter is known for his iconic roles in pop culture hits, but has also made several award-winning documentaries. He sifted through hundreds of hours of footage to make the picture. “Zappa was an extremely complicated and brilliant man who had as many detractors as he had fans,” Winter told Rolling Stone. “I hope that our audience finds him as captivating and significant an American artist as I do.”Continue reading

Bill And Ted 3 Gets Tittle and Release Date

Big news from a story we have been following. Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves announced today that the third movie in the Bill and Ted franchise is moving ahead! Bill and Ted Face The Music will release next summer, in 2020 via Orion Pictures with Winter and Reeves reprising their classic roles as Bill S. Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan. Thirty years ago this month the feel-good comedy Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (Orion Pictures) was released. On the surface, the film was a comedy about two SoCal teens who have to travel through time to write a term paper on history. Starring Winter and Reeves, along with comedy legend George Carlin. Hopefully, the soundtrack will mirror the first tow films and feature rock and heavy metal like to rock like Jane Wiedlin (The Go Go’s), Clarence Clemmons (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), Martha Davis (The Motels) and Fee Waybill (The Tubes). The soundtrack was solid with the debut single from Extreme, Tora Tora, Robbie Robb of Tribe After Tribe, and a track composed by the future band Nelson with an assist from Dweezil Zappa. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure spawned two sequels (the second has an incredible soundtrack), a live-action TV series, an animated TV series, and pop culture iconoclasm. Among the highly quotable film’s lines “party on!” was years before Wayne’s World became a thing. TContinue reading

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure Turns 30 Years Old

Before Beavis and Butthead, before Wayne’s World, and before Airheads, there was Bill S. Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan. Thirty years ago the feel-good comedy Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (Orion Pictures) was released. On the surface, the film was a comedy about two SoCal teens who have to travel through time to write a term paper on history. Starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, along with comedy legend George Carlin, there was a lot of teen humor for a late 80s film, but it was also a heartfelt a film about good-natured dudes who play guitar and love rock music with the simple dream in life. That simple dream to play rock music builds a utopian world. Pretty damn cool. When the film came out, the times were pretty friendly to rock the Bill and Ted music had rockers in the film like Jane Wiedlin (The Go Go’s), Clarence Clemmons (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), Martha Davis (The Motels) and Fee Waybill (The Tubes). The film still holds up well today and is being celebrated with an honorary anniversary celebration. by the filmmakers and the fans. Next month shooting begins on Bill and Ted 3, starring Reeves and Winter, due out in 2020. Continue reading
