Black Dahlia Murder Napalm Death Abnormality fall 2016 tour ghostcultmag

The Black Dahlia murder has added dates to their already extensive fall touring slate. After dates with Max & Iggor Cavalera Return To Roots, Allegaeon, Combichrist, All Hail The Yeti, and Oni for some performances across North America, the band will begin a co-headline tour with grindcore masters Napalm Death. Set to begin November 1st, this “Abysmal Predator” sees Abnormality, Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, and Power Trip as support on select performances. The Black Dahlia Murder will also headline a few shows this fall too.

The Black Dahlia Murder commented:

“It is our great pleasure to once again reunite with our long-time pals in Napalm Death; we really hit it off with them when we were just little tykes on our first-ever European tour so many years ago. To this day, Napalm remain a vital force in music and are some of my absolute heroes. It feels great to finally be able to announce this amazing line-up we’ve been brewing…Keeping a secret this good was killing me inside! All of the bands are absolutely killer and we couldn’t be more proud to be considered a part of this elite. We’ll see you this fall, bring your helmet!”

On the Road… with The Black Dahlia Murder

2015 indiemerchtrour Black Dahlia Murder second leg usa

For over a decade IndieMerchStore has been an indispensable partner to bands and record labels as a great place to sell band merchandise and music. You may not know this, but many bands only make money off of stuff they sell on tour and with the prowess and power of IndieMerchStore, they have a partner with a vested interest in making online sales easy and seamless. In the time since the company formed, they have also been a great help to the touring industry, sponsoring huge tours all the way down to small, get-in-the-van type artists. This holds especially true for underground bands in rock, metal, and death metal. So to celebrate their 10th year the brand booked a tour featuring death metal acolytes The Black Dahlia Murder and a cadre of killer bands. These tours also represented TBDM’s first tours in support of their recent album Abysmal (Metal Blade) Booked in two legs across the USA, the recently completed second leg featured Goatwhore, Iron Reagan, Entheos and Artificial Brain. Each band brought their own special something to the tour. It was loud, it’s was sweaty and in general, everyone raged. Ghost Cult’s Meg Loyal of Meg Loyal Photography caught up with the tour for us at The Sinclair in Boston, and you can see for yourself a sample the energy delivered each night.

The Black Dahlia Murder – Abysmal

black dahlia murder abysmal

Over the years as The Black Dahlia Murder has put out numerous albums that received positive reviews from all angles. I, for one, never really thought that highly of this group until this most recent release, Abysmal (Metal Blade Records). On previous records, I could pick out a song or two that stood out but the rest of the album would be forgettable. This latest release has certainly made me change my opinion of the Michigan melodic death outfit. Each track seems to have some memorable riff or breakdown that provided each track with its own personality.

The opening track, ‘Receipt’, really sets the standard to expect throughout Abysmal and is easily one of my favorite tracks on the album. The guitar riff is quite catchy along with the overall melody but still maintains the brutality that death metal carries. ‘Re-Faced’ is another track off of the record that really sticks out to me when I listen to this album. Specifically, as funny as this may sound, the breakdown really pulls the song together well as the placement is perfect and there was no need to have a cheesy/cliché slow build up. Towards the end of the album, ‘Asylum’ greeted my ears. The melody/guitar riff in the chorus with the exquisite drumming gets the track to a status of “epic” and may be my overall favorite on the entire album.

After listening to Abysmal, I found that I must have been a closet Black Dahlia fan after all of these years and finally I am coming out and it feels great! I think the biggest part is how much Trevor Strnad has progressed as a lead vocalist. I find that while older albums did have some great songs, I strongly believe the vocals were a big factor in why I spent years writing this band off. Have no fear fan boys, Tim gives big thumbs up on this album!

7.5/10

Modern death metal masters The Black Dahlia Murder are streaming their new album Abysmal, out this Friday, in full from Metal Blade Records’ website. You can hear the album at this link:

Front man Trevor Strnad commented on Abysmal:

“Once the record started to come together we knew it was going to be something special,” states vocalist Trevor Strnad. “It’s more urgent, it has more dynamics, it’s a more emotive record, and it has a more raw, angry sound to it. It’s still million mile-per-hour death metal, but when you invest so much thought and emotion into what you’re creating you end up with a record that does stand out, and we can hold our heads up high and say yeah, this is our best work.”

black dahlia murder abysmal

The Black Dahlia Murder streamed a new single today, ‘Receipt’, from their forthcoming album Abysmal. You can stream the track at this link at Revolver Magazine.

Abysmal released on September 18th from Metal Blade. Front man Trevor Strnad commented on ‘Receipt’:

“The song, ‘Receipt,’ is a very personal and emotional one for me. I wrote the lyrics in my darkest hour, when anxiety had bested me and self loathing had come to an ultimate head. I was alone. I felt like I couldn’t create anything, and I was about to lose all that in life that I hold dear to me to failure. The song was a cathartic release and I hope it can be some kind of help to someone out there who feels the same darkness. I truly love the song and I feel like its one of the best this band has ever written, and I thank you all for listening.”
