Metal Icon Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath, was laid to rest in his native Birmingham, England, this Wednesday (July 30, 2025). Tens of thousands of people turned out to support the town’s most famous native son, taking over the entire town with tributes. Ghost Cult’s veteran scribe Gary Alcock, who was at the Back To The Beginning show just weeks ago, was on hand and has allowed Ghost Cult to share his personal photos of the day. ALBUM REVIEW: Tar Pit – Scrying the Angel Gate


The sophomore album from Portland’s Tar Pit, Scrying the Angel Gate (Transylvanian Recordings), sets Lovecraftian themes against a style of doom that relishes the blues-based jams. An organ haunting the opening track from the back of the mix. The backbone of the song is a lumbering wall of fuzzed-out riffage. This song eventually builds the dynamic into a more metallic attack. Vocalist Don Gozalo brings an emotive howl to the songs. Unlike most doom frontmen, he is not as blatant an Ozzy disciple. Post-Mr Bungle’s dissolution in the early 2000s, Clinton “Bär” McKinnon relocated to Melbourne, Australia with stacks of material he’d written originally for the Eureka, California eccentrics. Thereafter, the formation of Umlaut followed, and a line-up that currently reads as the aforementioned McKinnon – Tenor Sax/Flute/ Clarinet/Keyboards/Guitar/Lead Vocals, Angus Leslie – Guitar/Backing Vocals/Keyboards, Bassist Shane Lieber, and recent addition Danny Heifetz (ex-Bungle) on Drums.

Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin Book North American Tour Dates Including Future Ruins Festival

Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin have announced two headlining tours of Canada and the United States. From October 8 – 15, they bring the score of Dario Argento‘s Suspiria – along with a screening of the film – to Canada. Then they cross into the US with the sounds of Argento’s Deep Red/Profondo Rosso, and a 50th anniversary screening of the film. Foo Fighters Enlists Drummer Ilan Rubin to Replace Josh Freese, Who is Now in Nine Inch Nails

According to Variety.com, Foo Fighters have hired drummer Ilan Rubin (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Angels & Airwaves, Paramore) to take over the drumming duties since they fired Josh Freese this spring. A source confirmed to Variety that Rubin, who has been a touring member of Nine Inch Nails since 2009, will step in for Freese as the band’s drummer, as first reported by the Hollywood Reporter. It’s unclear if his role will be permanent or just for touring, as the band has shows starting in October in Jakarta, Singapore and Mexico City Rubin and his wife are expecting a child any day now, and the FF gig will require less touring in the meantime Nine Inch Nails reunited with Freese, yesterday, after being fired this spring by Foo Fighters.
