Air Guitar Season 2020 starts. . . now?
The 2020 US Air Guitar Championships: Now With More 2019!
It seems like just a few months ago that we sent our favorite aristocrat, the Marquis, from winning the U.S. Air Guitar National Championships in Nashville all the way to Oulu, Finland where he then brought home the world title.
…and that’s because it was.
But here we are going on about the 2020 season announcements. So, what gives?
Every year, the U.S. Air Guitar team strives to better streamline the competitions for the competitors and the attendees. This year is no different.
Today, we’re announcing a few changes for 2020 season. The most important update is that we’re moving up the U.S. Air Guitar National Championships and have already settled on the city where it’d being held:
Saturday, May 16, 2020 in New York City!!!
That’s right! We’re bringing the action back to the Big Apple and we couldn’t be more pumped!! We know this might be an unexpected change since we were just in Brooklyn back in 2018. We also totally get that these changes will inconvenience some within the USAG family.
Because of this, we though it fair to fill everyone in why we’re making some adjustments.
Why NYC, AGAIN?!
We want U.S. Air Guitar to grow and connect with as many people around the country—and around the globe—as possible. One of those visions is by zeroing in on a market with plenty of people and support for our sport. After all, the best air guitar shows are the ones with the most energy, and what place has more energy than New York City?!
Also, we want to create a KILLER live stream experience to help build out our online reach more than we have before. Rather than rely on press, our goal is to create our own noise with our own resources. NYC gives us access to more of these resources.
For example, we’ve already locked down a stellar venue that’s perfect for a spectators, performers, judges, press, film crew setup, etc.
But Why May 16?
Maybe the NYC thing makes sense, but why so early??
Summer in New York City starts after Memorial Day. That means tons of fans, competitors and even potential celebrity judges leave town until fall. This was the latest date we could snag before the holiday itself.
We know it’s a big adjustment, but we felt the need to shake things up this year and try something new—so let’s see how it goes!!
What About the Qualifiers/Semifinals/Regionals
Off-season is just the worst, right? Well, now we don’t have one!
Because of the early date for Nationals, organizers can have local competitions anytime between TODAY and May 13, 2020!
No additional changes to the structure is expected at this time, so we will continue with the Regional and Qualifier model that has served us well the past several years.
