Transgender Metal Vocalist Danica Roem Elected To Virginia House of Delegates

Now this is awesome. Virginia’s most socially conservative state lawmaker, Robert Marshall, was ousted from office Tuesday by Danica Roem, who is transgender and the vocalist for the metal band Cab Ride Home. Danica’s victory makes her Virginia’s first openly transgender lawmaker, and we couldn’t be happier for her. Throughout the campaign, Robert Marshall refused to call her a woman, and often criticized her for her love of heavy metal, so it makes last night’s win that much sweeter.

During her victory speech she stated, “To every person who’s ever been singled out, who’s ever been stigmatized, who’s ever been the misfit, who’s ever been the kid in the corner, who’s ever needed someone to stand up for them when they didn’t have a voice of their own. This one is for you.

Congrats on making history Danica, and GOOD JOB VIRGINIA!
