In a report by Metal Sucks, Rex Brown has given a new interview to eonmusic in which he was asked about the possibility of a Pantera reunion without Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, if it was possible, and whether the constant calls from fans to have Zakk Wyle take Dimebag’s place. Rex says that any Pantera project could only be a tribute and not an official reunion without the brothers. He commented that the band would be enormous if the brothers had lived and that he and Philip Anselmo receive offers for arena shows. And finally, he remarked that Zakk would not be in consideration for even a tribute tour, and that is his definitive answer on that.

Zakk Sabbath, led by Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne shredder Zakk Wylde, has an unlikely hit on their hands. Released by the great label Magnetic Eye, known for sick bands, tons of stoner doom original releases, and tribute albums, Vertigo, is a tribute to Black Sabbath’s historic debut album which invented heavy metal and doom metal and turned 50 in 2019. The album, released only in physical versions and without online streams still ranked worldwide on the charts, due to physical sales (Deluxe CD vinyl). Zakk Sabbath, the Black Sabbath tribute band led by Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde has shared the first single from their upcoming Magnetic Eye Records tribute to the entire Sabbath self-titled debut album. The album is coming this fall, September 4th, and the album pre-sale has just started at the link below. Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society came out of the gate strong on Sonic Brew (Spitfire Records), even though it was a little under the radar for the high-profile Ozzy Osbourne band leader. While Sonic Brew, officially released in 1999 in the US, set the template for the BLS style, coming in about a year later refined what Zakk was aiming for. With better production, a bit heavier right hand, and a little more focus, the songs on Stronger Than Death (Spitfire) shine through. Continue reading
