My Diligence – Sun Rose
I love a good ‘first person possessive adjective’ band name. My Chemical Romance, My Vitriol, My Dying Bride…it suggests a dark drama within. My Diligence doesn’t get the juices flowing in quite the same fashion, but the rampant category-defying experience this Brussels collective provides is anything but weary drudge.Continue reading
Superfjord – All Will Be Golden
Finnish Prog Rock merchants Superfjord have the kind of name that should cement immediate status as cult legends. Somewhat marvelously, they also sound as if the last forty-five years have never happened. The powerful resonance of the music they produce has, incredibly, seen the band embraced by BBC Music, and second album All Will Be Golden (Svart) could leave the average rocker wondering if this is finally an avenue into awards that have previously excluded our genres.Continue reading
Von Hertzen Brothers – War Is Over
The Von Hertzen Brothers have been much covered and much admired across the digital pages of our humble vehicle, in particular, the excellent New Day Rising (Spinefarm). Two years on, and they’re back with the very ambitious War Is Over (Music Theories/Mascot), which further evidences their classic and prog rock sensibilities, and ability to combine them into sumptuous whole pieces. The Third Annual Ride for Ronnie: Live At Harley-Davidson of Glendale, California
The Third Annual “Ride For Ronnie” Motorcycle Rally and Concert took place earlier last month and raised $40,000 for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund. Attended by motorcycle enthusiasts and rockers by equal measure; bikers, bands, and fans young and old represented to raise money in memory for late heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio of Black Sabbath, Heaven And Hell, and Rainbow fame, who passed away from Gastric Cancer in 2010. Exclusive: Kindler – Cosmic Revelations, Full Album Stream
Ghost Cult is proud to bring you the full-album stream of Cosmic Revelations (Self-Released), the new full-length album from prog rock’s bright new hope, Kindler. The album drop tomorrow, March 11th. You can hear the stream at this link or below:
Hailing from Ashboro NC, Kindler pulls inspiration from such classic genre giants as Rush, Yes, ISIS, Mastodon, Tool, Opeth and Burst. Frontman Cameron Fitzpatrick commented on the occasion of the release:
“While we self-engineered both Cosmic Revelations and our EP “Afterglow”, and recorded them both at the same studio, Cosmic Revelations comes from a slightly different place than the EP. When we recorded “Afterglow”, we had a lot of concrete ideas about our music and our identity as a band, and the material reflected that certainty. The music on the album (Cosmic Revelations), however, is punctuated by what we call an “ominous question mark”. Things change, life is unpredictable, and very little remains certain, and these themes are present in nearly every song on the album.”
