Slipknot has notched another legit commercial “hit” on their belt as the single for the track “Unsainted” single was certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) on October 7 for accumulating 500,000 certified units. According to the RIAA, one equivalent song unit is equal to a single digital song sale, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams. Jay Weinberg, the world-renowned drummer for Slipknot, has shared a drum-playthrough video for Roland Drums for the track “Nero Forte”, from We Are Not Your Kind, out now via Roadrunner Records. The video and audio was recorded backstage at Slipknot’s concert on January 24, 2020, in Birmingham, U.K.In the video below, Weinberg plays along with a well-known favorite, using the V-Drums Acoustic Design VAD506 kit. Jay plays the SLIPKNOT song “Nero Forte”, with original drum track removed, from SD card inserted into the TD-27 module. The audio from the TD-27 module provides the drum sounds and are mixed with the track. Jay’s custom setup uses two VAD506 kits, combined together, to exactly model his acoustic kit setup as played on stage with SLIPKNOT. Two TD-27 modules are tethered together to provide inputs for all pads within the kit. Drum audio is recorded directly from the TD-27 modules into a DAW. Mixing and panning completed in post-production, maintaining the authenticity of the TD-27 module sound.

As we previously reported, Slipknot has been teasing an entire new album for release in 2020. The band recorded at least an albums’ worth of ambient style songs. The band also had leftover tracks following All Hope Is Gone (2008) that fans have also long sought to hear. The band posted a series of new video teasers on their Instagram account that seem to indicate song titles and other Easter eggs for new material. Some of those potential titles include Death Because Of Death, Allure Of Indignation, Fertilization Evacuation, Matured Ovule, Dreams Of Crops, The Esoteric Oneself Or Someone, The New Individual, Fertilization Deployment and more. ‘Death Because of Death’ is the third song on We Are Not Your Kind (Roadrunner Records) and is the ambient style track the band was referencing. One of the teasers led to an additional account and there are other secret accounts popping up on the web for the band, according to YouTuber House of Masks who first broke this news. The band announced their Knotfest UK tickets are going on sale this week, and Knotfest at Sea is also launching next summer. According to a poll on the Music Radar website, Slipknot’s Jim Root and Mick Thomson have been named “Best Metal Guitarists In The World.” The pair received over 17,000 votes, beating out such names as James Hetfield (Metallica); James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch (Korn); Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg (Amon Amarth); Richard Z.Kruspe and Paul Landers (Rammstein); Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa, Sean Long and Mat Welsh (While She Sleeps); Kerry King and Gary Holt (Slayer); Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel (Killswitch Engage); and Alexi Laiho and Daniel Freyberg (Children Of Bodom) in a vote by fans of the site.
