Imperial Triumphant – Abyssal Gods
Unleashing the beasts of the deep, Imperial Triumphant can only be described as chaos incarnate. Having spent the past 10 years lurking in the underground of the New York black metal scene, their sophomore full-length album Abyssal Gods rises through extreme label Code666.
Despite their recent venture out of being independent and onto signed album releases, a move only trialled with two EPs previously, there has been no compromise from older releases. This is still the ugly, hateful mass spitting repulsive murky riffs over packed drum lines in a hateful pulsating mass of sound. With no attempt to ease the listener into the album, opening track ‘From the Palaces of the Hive’ launches straight into double pounding drum lines and swirling guitars.
The key to their sound is contrast. Relentless tracks like ‘Opposing Holiness’ sits beside ‘Black Psychadelia’ that moves with a solid mid-paced groove. The album careers through 42 minutes of this insanity, still managing to constantly surprise as they break off into sections of brass or interlude with choir voices. The drums do fall into the trap of sounding over-produced at points on the album, perhaps a symptom of the double drum, but it’s easily forgiven when faced with the full gut-wrenching carnage that Abyssal Gods produces.
Such a dense, claustrophobic sound isn’t for the casual browser. While the album is not completely inaccessible, Imperial Triumphant have made an effort to make it as close as possible. Solid riffing and inhospitable noise struggle for dominance throughout making this an occasionally jolting and disjointed album but for the persistent listener, it has a lot to offer.

Machine Head Announce Fall Headline Tour of North America
As Machine Head puts the finishing touches on their highly anticipated new album, their first for Nuclear Blast Entertainment, the band has announced a 21 city, headline tour of the North America this fall.
A terrific lineup comprised of the modern kings of Bay Area thrash as headliners, with Children of Bodom, Epica and Battlecross in tow promises to be a fine show with a little something for fans of different styles of metal.
Rob Flynn of Machine Head commented about the tour in a press release:
“Machine Head raised the bar with concert production for 2012 ‘s ‘Locust’ tour, and now we plan to raise the bar again with our biggest US show yet, and the strongest line-up out there for 2014, PERIOD! This is a MUST SEE event for any heavy metal fan in America! I am stoked that we were able to join up with our friends in Children Of Bodom, one of the premier power metal bands of our time, and our friends in Battlecross, who we toured with on Mayhem last year, and are going to bring the old-school thrash vibe. Epica’s symphonic metal will add a touch of much needed class to the drunken shenanigans that will surely take place on this raucous tour. Come out and be a part of history ladies and gentlemen!”

King Diamond Announces Headline Tour This Fall
Metal legend King Diamond has announced his comeback headline tour of the USA, this fall. The full US tour, with full production promises to be the proper King Diamond live presentation fans stateside have been clamoring for. Joining him will be longtime band members Andy LaRocque, Mike Wead, Hal Patino, and Matt Thompson, making this a must see tour.
For the uninitiated (or just the un-metal) King Diamond was a legend before he ever went solo, leaving Mercyful Fate in 1985. Building on Don’t Break the Oath’s success, King has put out countless amazing albums, especially his first four: Fatal Portrait, Abigail, Them and Conspiracy; which still hold up well today despite being 25-30 years old.
King Diamond is an inspiration musically and aesthetically for two generations of metal bands, as well as being a pop culture figure as well (Clerks II, Dethklok). Best by injury and illness, save for an occasional festival appearance, this is the first full-scale tour KD has done in nearly a decade. Surely this announcement will stoke the fires for his long in the works new album, and eventually a Mercyful Fate reunion tour in the future.
The pre-sale started today here and the full sale is this Friday, 6/27. The tour includes stops at the annual Rock & Shock Festival and the Fun Fun Fun Fest.
