CONCERT REVIEW: Church of Misery – Truckfighters – Valley of The Sun and More: Live at The Kingsland

We were back at the Kingsland for a night of epic Doom Metal and Stoner Rock shenanigans. The place was packed in with heshers and hesherettes early. I was running around doing interviews so I dipped in and out of the main room and caught a little of openers Forming the Void and Black Wizard. Between those two bands, you have almost a perfect word cloud for Doom bands. Both bands rep beefy riffs worth getting wrecked over, so smoke ’em if you got em when you see these guys. GC might have already released it’s End of Year list, but that doesn’t mean the machine stops rolling. There’s always more to review. And Swedish stoner trio Kamchatka have dropped Hoodoo Lightning (Border Music) as a last-minute Christmas present for those who dig the late-60s and 70s. Continue reading

Desertfest Belgium Part II: Live At Trix, Antwerp

Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats, by Susanne A. Maathuis Photography

When it comes to after parties Desertfest is certainly no Roadburn, where shenanigans are abound after the bands finish, but the brilliant cocktail bar outside, and rum n coke’s so strong you can see right through them in the venue itself, do get the party started, even if it takes a while. And by three in the morning, as venue security tries to sweep us out the door, most want to linger for a bit more dancing.

Truckfighters – V

truckfighters-v-cover-ghostcultmag

Swedish stoner rock trio Truckfighters were one of the best acts at this year’s Desertfest in London. Playing with an energy and verve you (probably) wouldn’t expect to see at a big stoner festival, they came across like AC/DC playing Queens Of The Stone Age covers. Their new album, however, sees them take a more laid back approach. Continue reading
