50 Years Ago Jimi Hendrix Released “Electric Ladyland”


By mid-1968 Jimi Hendrix was in the midst of a transformation as an artist. After being shunned early in his career, his meteoric rise on the strength of his two previous albums with his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold As Love (both Track Records) was brilliant, but by all accounts had left him drained. Jimi was a creative genius and always looking for the next mountain to climb as an artist. While preparing what would become his ambitious double album Electric Ladyland (Reprise/Track), Hendrix began gravitating towards a style and sound that would influence the remaining years of his life. While still pulling heavily from the Blues, he was beginning to incorporate more Folk, Funk, and experimental styles of music that indicated where he was going in the future.Continue reading


Public Image Ltd Releasing What The World Needs Now September 4th


Public Image Ltd (PiL) will be releasing their tenth studio album titled What The World Needs Now on September 4, 2015 via PiL Official (Distributed in the UK via Cargo UK Distribution and in North America via Redeye). Album opener and lead single “Double Trouble” will be released on August 21, 2015. The 10″ vinyl version will be backed by “Bettie Page” and also come with an additional bonus track which is not on the album, “Turkey Tits.”

Last year, the band returned to Steve Winwood‘s Wincraft studio in the Cotswolds’ to record the new album. The band will be doing a 23-date UK and European tour in the fall. The current lineup consists of frontman John Lydon, guitarist/multi instrumentalist Lu Edmonds (ex-Damned), drummer Bruce Smith (The Pop Group, ex-Slits), and bassist Scott Firth (Steve Winwood, John Martyn, Elvis Costello)

Eric Clapton Releasing Best Of Album Forever Man April 28th

Legendary songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and 19-time Grammy Award winner Eric Clapton will be release a brand new Best Of compilation entitled Forever Man via Reprise Records on April 28, 2015 in the US.

Featuring 51 tracks over three CDs, Forever Man spans three decades of Clapton’s Reprise Records years and features classic studio tracks and a Blues-themed disc.

The release of Forever Man coincides with an upcoming tour, which includes nine concert dates in celebration of his 70th birthday on March 30th. The shows will take place at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden on May 1st and 2nd and at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 20th, 21st, and 23rd. The shows will feature Clapton, accompanied by his band members Paul Carrack, Steve Gadd, Nathan East, Chris Stainton, Sharon White, and Michelle John, with opening support act Andy Fairweather Low and the Low Riders.
