Sad news as one of our favorite conventions ever, Spooky Empire has totally canceled both their events they had planned for 2020, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In addition to being the premiere horror-themed convention in North America, the growing Florida based cons feature stars from horror, sci-fi, pop culture, rock and metal! Both events have been rescheduled for 2021. We hope to see you all there! Read this message from the organizers.
Terrible news has come down today as Horror movie legend, Sid Haig, has died after an illness and after a recent hospitalization. The news was made public by his wife Suzie on social media post, which you can see below. Sid had a huge career in the 1970s in the horror, blaxploitation, sci-fi genres in movies and television, but had a resurgence after being cast in Quentin Tarantino’sJackie Brown (1997) and Kill Bill II (2004) and Rob Zombie’sHouse of a 1000 Corpses (2003). Sid’s last two roles are in Zombie’s upcoming 3 From Hell, and he was also in Slayer’sRepentless Killogy of music videos and mini-movies. We last saw Sid and last fall’s Spooky Empire con. We wish his loved ones, friends, collaborators and fans our sympathies as this time. Continue reading
One of the most underrated extreme metal albums of 2019 is Serpents’ (US) release Temet Nosce. The brainchild of Andrew Mikhail (ex-Oceano), the guitarist, vocalist and composer has taken the solo Blackened Death Metal influenced, auteur-driven work of his previous albums into a fully fleshed-out band. We caught up with Andrew to discuss the genesis of the project, his approach to composing and producing, philosophy and other influences on the band, prospects of the band touring, theSpooky Empire Horror and Tattooconvention, and much more!
