The spring festival season kicks off in earnest this weekend in Oslo, Norway with the amazingly kvlt experience that is Inferno Metal Festival. The four-day festival of extreme music and culture takes over one of the birthplace cities of heavy music in the world. The fest is sold out once again, adding to the excitement. Shining (SWE) Replaces Katatonia At Inferno Festival 2018

Enigmatic Swedish metal band Shining has been added to Inferno Festival 2018, as a replacement for Katatonia, who canceled their appearance after going on hiatus. Shining is still touring in support of their tenth album X , Varg utan flock (Dark Essence/Season Of Mist) from 2016. Inferno Metal Festival is the longest-running and most extreme metal festival in Norway and one of the most important extreme metal festivals in the entire world. Schammasch Books European Headline Tour

Swiss avant-black metallers Schammasch has booked a full tour of Europe, kicking off next week. Direct support will come from Batushka and Trepaneringsritualen, making for a thrilling bill for lovers of kvlt and extreme music. Schammasch are creating their new album for release later this year, have also has dates booked for the upcoming Inferno Festival in Norway this March and Hellfest in France as well. Schammasch – The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite

It’s been a strange trip for Schammasch.  Starting as a not-entirely-successful mash-up of Black Metal and Stoner Doom, they scored an underground break-out with 2014’s Contradiction.  That rarest of rarities – a double album that’s interesting all the way through and isn’t Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds – it swaggered out of the gates like a prog-infused Behemoth, all muscular Black/Death Metal riffing combined with effective atmospherics and some genuinely skilful songwriting, and had many professional opinion-givers cautiously predicting them as the Next But One Big Thing. Roadburn Festival Kicks Off Today, John Baizley Of Baroness Curates The Weekend

 

The Roadburn Festival, the world première event for all things heavy, diverse, avant-garde, and underground begins today in Tilburg, NL  at various venues, under the watchful eye of founder Walter Hoeijmakers. John Dyer Baizley of Baroness curates this years’ fest and performs with his band as well. The fest is nearly a sellout with some limited tickets available for Sunday. Full details below.
