Watch Mike Patton Join S.O.D. for “Speak Spanish or Die” from Quarantine

As we have been saying Charlie Benante has been killing it in quarantine, teaming up with many of his famous metal musician friends to play covers from quarantine. Now he has again reteamed with featuring Mike Patton (Faith No More, Dead Cross, Mr. Bungle) and they have done their classic song ‘Speak English or Die’, recast as ‘Speak Spanish or Die’. Mr. Bungle, fronted by Patton, played the song on tour this February. Last month S.O.D., which includes Benante, his Anthrax bandmate Scott Ian, and Dan Lilker, teamed up for renditions of ‘March Of The S.O.D.’ and ‘Chromatic Death’. Patton makes an appearance in the accompanying video as “The Lonely Rager,” complete with a cowboy hat and bandana mask. Watch it now!

Remembering Reed Mullin, Drummer for Corrosion of Conformity (1966-2020)

So far, 2020 has been a cruel mistress as the reaper has claimed several giants of the drumming world. One that hits us particularly hard is the sudden death of Wiliam “Reed” Mullin of Corrosion of Conformity, at the young age of 53. Reed was not only a stellar drummer and musician, but he was also almost universally loved by the Hardcore Punk, Thrash Metal, Doom and Stoner Rock community, which is both amazing and insane. It just goes to show the talent Reed had and the breadth of different styles he helped encompass with C.O.C. Equal to his impact on record and behind the drumkit and the microphone, Mullin impacted a ton of people in the scene with his kindness and sense of humor. Continue reading

Maryland Deathfest 2017 Part II, Baltimore, Maryland

Hitting the halfway point of Maryland Deathfest is usually a milestone that no one really notices and those who do will actually not speak of it. No one wants to think the weekend is going to end nor that the end is already halfway here. Instead, hangovers are nursed, more questionable food is consumed, and everyone marches back to Rams Head Live and Baltimore Soundstage for another day of partying. Fortunately for myself and my party of friends, we know how to party but dodge the hangovers. So, we made sure to be on time for Soundstage opening up with the first band playing slightly before four in the afternoon. That included polishing off a bottle of vodka left behind by the previous renters of the Air BnB. Thank you to those unnamed heroes! Continue reading

Maryland Deathfest 2017: Part I – Baltimore Maryland

Memorial Day weekend in the United States is a time to remember our veterans who have served in the country’s military and most will commemorate such an occasion with cookouts. In Baltimore, Maryland, the partying starts a few days before the weekend but the celebration is about extreme music. This weekend is known to the fans as simply, MDF, or in full, Maryland Deathfest. Doom metal, black metal, grindcore, punk, and of course, death metal, take over multiple venues in the Inner Harbor area of the city all weekend long as the streets run black with hideous, graphic band t-shirts. For me, this is my sophomore year of the festival and could not be more excited to return.Continue reading
