Watch Pantera Perform For the First Time in 21 Years at Mexico’s Hell and Heaven Festival
The reformed version of Pantera (Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown, with Zakk Wylde on guitar and Anthrax’s Charlie Benante on drums) performed tonight as one of headlining bands at Mexico’s Hell and Heaven Fest in Toluca, MX. Tonight was the start of a multi-continent world tour expected to last at least into 2024, including three dates at Slipknot’s Knotfest events in South America this month, 10 dates in Europe and opening for Metallica. The band played a selection of tracks spanning their albums from 1991 – 2000. The stage set up was slightly reminiscent of The band’s tour for the Reinventing The Steel album (Elektra Records, 2000), while a giant video screen showed Pantera’s official music videos, clips from The Pantera “Home Video” series, and paid tribute to Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell Abbott. Check out fan-filmed videos, photos, and the setlist below.

CLASSIC ALBUMS REVISITED: Thirty Years of “Vulgar Display of Power” By Pantera
By 1992, Metal was all but on its knees. Traditional bands had become dinosaurs and previously popular scenes were burnt out. There were exceptions, of course. Slayer were playing arenas, Metallica had global domination in their sights, death metal was approaching its peak and across northern Europe, black metal was literally rising from the ashes of burned churches. But for the rest of the world, grunge and other alternative scenes were the new kings, all drawing inspiration from the bands they were replacing but without any of that old fashioned baggage.Continue reading
Rex Brown Dismisses Idea that Zakk Wylde Would Ever Take Part in a Pantera Reunion
In a report by Metal Sucks, Rex Brown has given a new interview to eonmusic in which he was asked about the possibility of a Pantera reunion without Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, if it was possible, and whether the constant calls from fans to have Zakk Wyle take Dimebag’s place. Rex says that any Pantera project could only be a tribute and not an official reunion without the brothers. He commented that the band would be enormous if the brothers had lived and that he and Philip Anselmo receive offers for arena shows. And finally, he remarked that Zakk would not be in consideration for even a tribute tour, and that is his definitive answer on that.
