Some bands also struggle to come to terms with aging and changing. Others try and recapture their earlier sounds, while others strive to evolve. Pantera Crosses The One Billion Streaming Mark

Pantera has shared a post to social media thanking fans for the band reaching 1 Billion streams across platforms such as (in alphabetical order) Amazon, Apple, Deezer, Google, and Spotify. The band joins notable recent bands such as Metallica, Guns N Roses, and Nirvana with over one billion streams. Pantera was founded in 1981 and released nine studio albums total and a live album (not counting compilations and boxed sets), coming to prominence with their fifth and major-label debut, Cowboys From Hell. Down Books Appearance At Graspop Metal Meeting For “NOLA 25 Tour”

The long-rumored Down reunion is in effect for 2020! The first date of a presumed world tour celebrating the Stoner-Doom supergroup’s legendary debut album NOLA releasing twenty-five years ago next year will begin at Graspop Metal Meeting. The band features current and former members of southern metal greats Pantera, EyeHateGod, COC, Crowbar, Honky and more. The fest takes place June 18-20 in Belgium and added seventy new bands to the bill today, including Down. The announcement comes less than a month after singer Philip Anselmo revealed that the band was in talks to reunite in 2020 for some shows in celebration of the 25th anniversary. No word if former members like co-founder Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Kingdomm of Sorrow, Rex Brown (Pantera), or the recently retired again Todd Strange will participate. Continue reading

Former Pantera bassist Rex Brown issued a statement on last month’s passing of his former bandmate, ex-Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. Vinnie passed away on June 22nd at the age of 54. After more than three decades with one of the heaviest bands of all time, Rex Brown wanted to do something different, and that’s exactly what he did. Rex wrote a true rock ‘n’ roll record, which he finally released back in July. Smoke On This is the first album to feature Rex on vocals and guitar, and as he mentioned in our interview, he had complete freedom to write whatever he wanted for the first time in his career.
