December 8th marks the anniversary of the death of Dimebag Darrell Lance Abbott of Pantera and Damageplan. Today is the 19th anniversary of his murder of while on stage at the former Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, Ohio. That venue has now been demolished. As we do every year on this date, we prefer to cherish Darrell’s memory and honor how he lived. Almost 20 years later no one can deny his impact as a player, songwriter, and major personality in metal. While controversial, the current world tour from the reformed version of Pantera is a tribute to Darrell and his late brother Vinnie Paul. The Melvins have announced a newly recorded, career-retrospective unplugged album, Five Legged Dog, due October 15th via Ipecac Recordings. Remembering Dimebag Darrell Abbott of Pantera, Who Died Sixteen Years Ago Today


Today marks the sixteenth anniversary of the murder of Dimebag Darrell Lance Abbott of Pantera and Damageplan while on stage at the Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, Ohio. Although we are sad at the occasion and we prefer to honor how he lived most of all, we can’t overlook the significance of the loss to the world of metal. Somewhere in the world right now, someone is strapping on a guitar and learning to play those songs, licks, and solos, which is at the very least, a comfort to know.
