EP REVIEW: Overthrow – Ascension of the Entombed

Evolution is inevitable. It happens in humanity, nature and even art. Since their start back in 2011, British extreme metallers, Overthrow have grown and evolved their style with each release. ALBUM REVIEW: Church Of The Dead – Beyond Death

Church of the Dead are ready to release more crushing old-school Death Metal with their second album Beyond Death (Redefining Darkness). The band does a terrific job of infusing several different styles into their classic death metal assault, black metal, some light synths, and even some punk rock are all thrown into the mix. The results leave a riff-heavy album that relies more on sheer power and brutality than any over-the-top theatrics.

Their latest effort, Contempt for a Failed Dimension (Redefining Darkness), may be their most savage and brutal album to date full of hammering riffs, demonic vocals, and thunderous drums. This is some comfort food-level death metal. Nothing groundbreaking, just some heavy-ass sick music to satisfy even the darkest appetite.

ALBUM REVIEW: Detherous – Unrelenting Malevolence

Detherous is quickly becoming a band to pay attention to. Their 2019 debut, Hacked to Death was a balls-to-the-wall thrasher with a killer Kreator-meets-Death sound that easily put the band on many playlists. The Canadian band’s follow-up solidifies the group’s thrash meets death metal style with more unrelenting riffs, bombastic drums, and savage vocals that invoke the great Chuck Schuldiner.

Deceived by whispers of comfort from the dread pages, Richard Benton tarried too long among the blasphemous text of the Book Of Dead Names – and four eldritch nightmares followed him back.
