On The Road… with Baroness

baroess us tour spring 20106 ghostcultmag

Baroness continues to tour heavily all over the globe behind late 2015 release Purple, released on their own Abraxan Hymns label. Purple is not just the latest release in the bands’ storied career, but represents a zenith of songcraft and musicianship they may not be able to top. Like every step in their career, all the music of Baroness is cinematic in the best sense. It doesn’t just tell a story, it envelopes you in all the peaks and valleys emotionally you could imagine. When we look back on it, this may be the band to define this generation. Purple is that great an album that the band doesn’t shy away from leaning heavily on new songs like ‘Kerosene’, ‘Shock Me’, ‘Chlorine And Wine’ and ‘Morningstar’ to name a few. They also peppered in hits on this night from across their impressive album catalog. The entire crowd singing a long with every word, moving with every chord and beat, non-stop. The band was captured on this night for Ghost Cult, by Evil Robb Photography at Royale in Boston:

On The Road… with My Sleeping Karma, Greenleaf and Mammoth Mammoth

My Sleeping Karma by Jesica Lotti Photography

My Sleeping Karma by Jesica Lotti Photography

German instrumental space rockers My Sleeping Karma have toured relentlessly for the last year behind their album Moskha (Napalm Records), and recently hit the UK for a string of dates. The bands blend of psychedelia, stoner metal and incredible instrumental prowess, makes their shows much more lively than your average band of navel gazing, self-important nerds. MSK gets the “rock” part of this and they always put on a fine show. Opening tonight’s show was Aussie no-nonsense heshers Mammoth Mammoth. These guys know how to write party rock anthems and feel good jams. MSK’s Napalm Records label mates Greenleaf of Sweden, themselves have a brand new album they are promoting, Rise Above The Meadow. Their blend of Sabbath-like retro grooves and well written psych explorations are as intoxicating as the many beers consumed in the bar this night. At The Garage in London recently, all the bands packed the club to nearly sold out, further proving the worth of this type of bill. Thanks to Jessica Lotti Photography for capturing the show for Ghost Cult.
