Otep Shamaya Calls Out Ubisoft for Stealing an Otep Song for FarCry 5

Musician, artist, and activist Otep Shamaya, the namesake of the band OTEP took to social media this week to call out video game company Ubisoft for stealing the song “Smash The Control Machine” (from the 2009 album of the same name) as heard in FarCry 5 release originally in 2018. The singer questioned the gaming giant why they thought it was cool to take her song and incorporate it into the game without compensation. The rabid and loyal fans of the band have also taken to calling out Ubisoft, tagging their social handles, and asking for answers, so far to no avail. Otep herself has worked as a voice artist on many films and video games notably The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, and The Last of Us. In other Otep news, a later post indicates Otep is working on both a solo Rap album and a new album with Otep at the same time. We’ll follow up on this story as we learn more details. Otep – Psycho Village – My Own Ghost – Thola: Live at the Bread Shed, Manchester (UK)

Often labeled as past its peak, or sometimes worse, Nu-Metal is one of those subgenres that is loathed by some and loved by others, but by some weird paradox has never failed to maintain its relevance or draw a crowd. Though djent and post Killswitch Engage metalcore is all the craze these days, I always enjoy pointing out to the naysayers that very few bands in either scene have amassed a gargantuan fanbase on the level of a Slipknot, Korn or Deftones. It is a genre that for many a metalhead such as myself and those I encountered tonight at The Bread Shed, was the first to expose them to heavy music, and its importance has clearly endured through California’s Otep, who arrive on UK shores for the first time in almost two decades for their “Art of Dissent” tour. OTEP’s Van Stolen in The UK, Final Shows This Weekend

OTEP’s first tour of Europe in several years was slightly derailed when their tour van was stolen along with crucial elements of their back line, including their drums. The band had to scramble to recover and finish the rest of their tour. They managed to get help with drums, replace the van, and hire a new tour manager all within a day from fans. The band had to cancel Scotland and Swansea dates, but the band has offered any fans who missed those shows to make it to any other dates of the tour and offered local bands a free opening spot for lending them gear. Way to turn a shitty situation into a positive OTEP and crew. If anyone has any information about their missing tour van or gear, you can email the band at the account below. OTEP continues to tour behind 2018’s Kult 45 album, out now Napalm Records. Continue reading

Otep – Kult 45

It’s no surprise given the current political landscape of the world, that our artists, musicians, and other creators are going to be the greatest champions for the people. It’s clear that the systems we have propped ourselves up on for decades such as government, schools, the church, brutal corporations and other institutions have failed us terribly. So, of course, Otep Shamaya and OTEP come back now with a new album to basically put everyone sucking the love out of this world on blast. Hitting ’em where it hurts verbally and bringing the heavy, Kult 45 (Napalm) is just the antidote if you’ve lost your faith about the future. Continue reading
