ALBUM REVIEW: Halestorm – Back From The Dead

While it’s damn near time to call a moratorium on the “bands affected by the pandemic” introduction to review pieces, it does seem particularly prevalent to do so in reference to Halestorm, for whom life on the road seems such an integral and core part of who and what they are. That isn’t to say that a fifth album wouldn’t have been coming around now, just that the circumstances and unplanned quiet time wouldn’t have dictated the methods of its creation.Continue reading

CLASSIC ALBUMS REVISITED: Deftones Released “Diamond Eyes” Ten Years Ago

Deftones, even at their best, have been a band of dichotomies. That is what makes them a special band in the history of heavy music: opposing forces pulling and pushing them apart and back again. They may have been coming apart at the seams in the run-up to making Diamond Eyes (Reprise), and you couldn’t blame them. If you follow the band closely, you know the history. The band was nearly done tracking their highly anticipated album Eros in the fall of 2008, when founding bassist Chi Cheng was in a car wreck, on his way home from a funeral. Chi was left in a vegetative state, and the band was in shock. As Chi fought for his life (he passed in 2013, RIP), the band was left wondering what to do. They wanted to make music, but the experience with their best friend caused them to shelve Eros, never to be heard (almost never). When they came back together, the results were unexpected and wild. ALBUM REVIEW: Korn -The Nothing

I’m not sure what things look like over at Korn HQ, but I like to imagine that in a year with well-received releases from contemporaries like Tool and Slipknot, someone stood up and called for the bagpipes to come out of mothballs. Am I saying that Korn’s The Nothing (Roadrunner Records) is up to par with Fear Inoculum? Nah, man. Is it up to par with Slipknot’s We Are Not Your Kind? Well, that depends on you, true believers. Based on an Instagram post from drummer Ray Luzier, Korn appears back in the studio working on new music.
