ALBUM REVIEW: Sarattma – Escape Velocity

Escape Velocity (Nefarious Industries) is the debut album from Philidelphia, Pennsylvania-based instrumental duo Sarattma, and follows their debut Inner Spaces EP released in 2017. Featuring Mellowdeath and ex-Brian Jonestown Massacre drummer Sara Neidorf and Cleric guitarist Matt Hollenberg, their music is highly experimental with a distinct edge of tripped-out psychedelia, and is uniquely impressive! Jam it out right now!

Bangladeafy – Ribboncutter

Pinning down Bangladeafy is a tough ask. There are touches of Tech Metal here and glimpses of Prog Rock there, pushed through the filter of a Drum and Bass act as played by Lightning Bolt. An easier descriptor may be simply bat-shit bonkers, but there is a method to this NYC duo’s particular brand of vibrant madness.Continue reading

Nequient – Wolves at the Door

A sea change seems to be afoot in the heavy music game. Young bands like Code Orange, Knocked Loose and now Nequient’s approach to the genre is to craft albums that pull from as wide a net of influences as possible and spinning that yarn into functional songs. On Wolves at the Door (Nefarious Industries) Nequient uses d-beat-laden Crust Punk as a framework, and stacks on Thrash, Grindcore, Hardcore, Sludge and Black Metal to create a collage of brutality. Matt Lupo (East Of The Wall guitarist) of OPUL is streaming “Presence”, off his latest EP Levels, out on January 13, 2015 via Nefarious Industries, here.

The fourth chapter Lupo will release under the OPUL banner in less than three years, Levels takes the multi-instrumentalists’ work to new realms, both in exploration and delivery. The EP is full of guitar-driven, super-melodious, heavy rock riffage that aims for the stratosphere. Something tangible is here offered to fans of progressive/post-hardcore experimentation, modern progressive crossover and soulful folk/indie rock. All of these attributes can be felt in the infectious nearly five-and-a-half minute opening rocker, “Presence,” and only continues to unfold through the remainder of the witty recording.

Matt Lupo of East Of The Wall’s solo project Opul will be releasing his fourth solo album Levels, out January 13, 2015 via Nefarious Industries.

On his fourth solo excursion as OPUL, Lupo delivers plenty of the guitar and melodic vocals he is known for providing for his other musical acts, yet on this expansive and reflexive three-song EP, the multi-instrumentalist supplies all instruments including bass and drums. A layered and ambitious excursion, this twenty-minute recording showcases a variety of beautifully-layered vocal arrangements, atop both crunching and crystal clear guitar tones, and an incredible range of musical exploration, fully written, performed, recorded and mixed by Lupo himself, and mastered by Steven Alexander. OPUL’s newest offering is guitar-driven, super-melodious, heavy rock riffage that aims for the stratosphere. Something tangible is here offered to fans of 90s progressive/post-hardcore experimentation, modern progressive crossover and soulful folk/indie rock, with fragments of everything from Quicksand, Sensefield, Shift, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead, Dredg and labelmates Maid Myriad cohesively found within these Levels.

Levels Track Listing:
1. Presence
2. Velocity & Saturation
3. Clarity
