Four years after regaling us with stories of Carthaginian General Hannibal on The Immortal Wars (Napalm Records) Canadian/Italian death metal act Ex Deo return with more tales of ancient Rome on fourth full length release The Thirteen Years of Nero (also Napalm). As its title suggests, the central theme this time is the reign of Imperator Nero Cladius Divi Claudius filius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (or plain old Emperor Nero to his friends) and the matricide, uxoricide, blood, fire and death which followed him.

Last Friday (1/29/21) I got to check out the live stream from Housecore bands Scour and Shock Narcotic. Both of these groups are “supergroups” but I’m not going to get into that right now. I will say though that the list of bands that make up the background for each band are some of my favorites so I was kinda excited for this show.
Long-running death metal and grindcore leaders Misery Index have signed with Century Media. The band is are currently working hard on their seventh studio album, which is expected to be released in 2021 to coincide with the group’s 20th anniversary. As a special treat for all of their fans, who currently miss seeing Misery Index live, the band has teamed up with Revolver to present a brutal live set captured on March 6th, 2020 in Munich during “The Campaign for Musical Destruction” with Napalm Death, Eyehategod, Rotten Sound, and BAT. Crushing news for the summer festival season in Europe, as France’s legendary Hellfest, has been canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The festival announced today it was unable to host the festival, which takes place in Clisson, France, outside of Paris. Hellfest 2021 is already announced for next summer.
