ALBUM REVIEW: Malevolence – Malicious Intent

The very title of Malevolence’s new record should tell you all you need to know about what to expect.

Malicious Intent (Nuclear Blast) is the third full-length release from the groove-meets-metalcore five-piece outfit hailing from the UK and follows up 2017’s Self Supremacy. Boasting all original members, Malevolence has returned with a vengeance, though one that is tempered.Continue reading

Enterprise Earth – Luciferous

A great philosopher of our age often posits a question. It may be a rhetorical question, but one that every fan of heavy music finds themselves asking every day. It is not a question of faith, nor meant to invoke an existential crisis, but one far more important and intrinsic to the makeup of Heavy Metal. “Do you want heavy?”. Well, if the answer is yes – as it always should be – then look no further than Enterprise Earth.Continue reading

Malevolence – Self Supremacy

Much like with my last review, I’m walking in cold to Malevolence’s Self Supremacy (BDHW). I didn’t even know they were British. That said, reading tracks like ‘Trial by Fire’ and ‘Spineless’ I thought I might have to find myself playing the role of lyric police… and there are lyrical improvements to be made, as we learn on ‘Severed Ties’ that “you have to cut the grass to find the fucking snakes.” Not the most enlightening sentence ever, but the superb musicianship will certainly capture listener attention. Continue reading

It could be argued that Deathcore as a genre has become stagnant with bands happy to stay the course whilst offering nothing more than small changes in sound, almost unable or not willing to push themselves. However along come Martyr Defiled from Lincoln, UK, who have torn Deathcore a new arsehole with their second album Young Gods (self-released).Continue reading
