Mantar to Release Covers Album, Shares Video for Mazzy Star Cover


Germany’s two-piece blackened crust band Mantar has announced that they are releasing a mini-covers album focusing on the 1990s, Grungetown Hooligans II, June 26th on LP/Digital via Brutal Panda Records and can be pre-ordered at the link below. Also, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mazzy Star’s release of their seminal debut album, Mantar have shared a music video for their cover of ‘Ghost Highway’, which you can see below.

ALBUM REVIEW: Blackwater Holylight – Veils Of Winter


Blackwater Holylight (RidingEasy Records), the début album from the Portland, Oregon-based doomstresses of the same name, delivered not merely an enlivening quality but also realised founder member Alison ‘Sunny’ Faris‘ intent of giving heavier rock a new lease of life by incorporating more tuneful, lighter music into that sound. With second album Veils Of Winter (RidingEasy Records) the band, now a quintet with the addition of guitarist Mikayla Mayhew, aim to expand on that formula and the buzz created by that first release.

Punk Documentary Series From Iggy Pop and John Varvatos Debuts on Epix


Punk, a new documentary series made its debut on the EPIX channel tonight. Produced by Iggy Pop and designer and music mogul John Varvatos, Punk is a four-part series that explores the birth of Punk Rock. Legendary 1990s rockers L7 have come together and created a new album, due out this May 3rd, from Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records. Scatter The Rats promises to pick up where the icons last left off. The album was produced by Norm Block (JennyLee, Paper Cranes, Plexi) and Nick Launay (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) at Happy Ending Studios and Sunset Sound In Los Angeles. They just dropped a new single and video “Burn Baby”, created by Blue Hats Creative and directed by Courtney and Hillary Andujar.
