Kayo Dot Signs With Prophecy Productions

Kayo Dot, led by Avant-garde experimentalist Toby Driver has signed to the Prophecy Productions label. Formed in 2003 by the members of the legendary metal band, maudlin of the well, the band has carved out a high-minded musical aesthetic ranging from free-form Jazz to epic black metal. Frontman Driver’s list of collaborators includes names like Randall Dunn (WITTR, Myrkur, Sunn 0))), Secret Chiefs 3 (Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle), John Zorn, and G. Stuart Dahlquist (Burning Witch, Asva), among many others. His solo work includes collaborations with Brian Chase of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as well as his touring outfit Piggy Black Cross. Further announcements are expected about a new Kayo Dot release on Prophecy in the future. Continue reading

Kjeld Added To Roadburn, Festival Begins Next Week

Long-revered European music festival Roadburn kicks off four days of heavy, avant-garde and challenging music and art experiences in Tilburg, NL. Dutch black metal entity Kjeld has been added to the bill due to Cocatenatus dropping off due to a family situation. Roadburn Announces Cul De Sac Lineup And Pre-Party

Roadburn 2018 is shaping up to be another incredible festival. In addition to the main lineup of bands, and special programs, Roadburn has announced its Cul de Sac lineup of special bands in Roadburn’s most intimate venue as well as the site of its Pre-Party. Ehnahre – The Marrow

Let’s be honest – for all its talk of “extremes”, Metal is largely a pretty conservative genre. Few bands experiment beyond the controlled combination of rigorously defined subgenres, and even those who do truly push the boundaries are normally content to do so only once. Ehnahre – formed with the stated intention of creating the most horrible and perverse music imaginable – have been a dedicated exception to this rule from the beginning, to the extent that they frequently don’t sound like a Metal band at all.
