Seminal New York Hardcore Metal Band Orange 9MM Has Reformed

In a post to Instagram, legendary New York City band Orange 9mm has reformed with a new lineup for 2024. Although no firm plans have been announced as yet, we’d expect shows and festival appearances could be plentiful, and hopefully new music. A seperate post touted at least a new song and “maybe some shows!” Originally formed in 1992 by Chaka Malik (Burn, Ghost Decibels), joined by returning guitarist Taylor McLam, along with new additions drummer Chris Enriquez (Spotlights, Total Meltdown, On The Might of Princes, Julie Christmas, Lightower, Burn), and bassist Cory Bonfiglio (Total Meltdown). The posts also shouted out integral past members of the band, such as Chris Traynor (ex-Helmet, Rival Schools, now of Bush fame). Orange 9MM released a demo via Revelation Records and three albums, including top-tier mid-1990s releases Driver Not Included (East-West Records) in 1995 and Tragic (Atlantic Records) in 1996. You can read public posts from the band and Chris below!

ALBUM REVIEW: Mastiff – Deprecipice

The multilayered masterpiece that is Deprecipice (MNRK Heavy) is lightyears away from anything else that has graced the brutal metallic sludge/Hardcore/Death Metal scene for quite some time. Leave it up to Mastiff to be the ones leading the charge. Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Pissed Jeans – Half Divorced

Even in a world of Butthole Surfers and Cuntroaches, there’s something about the name Pissed Jeans that’s so… gross. In terms of bands with names that might bother your parents though, the Pennsylvanian four-piece’s latest record Half Divorced (Sub Pop), has more in common with The Circle Jerks (not to mention Black Flag and Fear). This album here is quintessentially hardcore in spirit (and often in sound too). Continue reading

REVIEWS ROUND-UP: ft – Haystack – Rough Justice – Crawling Through Tartarus – Dwarrowdelf

When Entombed followed Uffe Cederlund’s vision and produced the divisive Same Difference in 1998, the direction and sound that incorporated a hefty dose of Unsane and Cederlund’s other project, Haystack, was quickly parked following an overwhelmingly negative response -it’s genuinely not a bad record at all, with hindsight – Senior Ed], and the Stockholm massive returned to their HM-2 Death n’ Roll stylings.

Haystack, too, fell by the wayside for over two decades, too. The resurrection continues, though, with second album since their return, and fourth overall, Doomsday Goes Away (The Dogma Repertory Institute/Threeman Recordings).

ALBUM REVIEW: Darkest Hour – Perpetual I Terminal

Let’s go back to a time before Metalcore became big business, got overcrowded and then rose to prominence again. Back to before it had become a dirty word due to musical abortions like Falling in Reverse or Emmure completely shitting the bed. Continue reading

REVIEWS ROUND-UP: ft. Amaranthe – Blackberry Smoke – Bokassa – Shooting Daggers

When Swedish Europop-metalcore (they’re a difficult band to put a tag on considering how distinct their sound is!) sextet Amaranthe announced their arrival with 2011’s self-titled semi-classic album, it was hard to imagine them, as great as their first shot was, still being around thirteen years later.
