Then Kravitz will join the tour in Foxboro, MA at Gillette Stadium on Jul 19th through the end of the tour. Guns N’ Roses have already performed two sold out shows at the new Las Vegas Arena to begin their storied comeback, two performances in Mexico City, and played Coachella. Guns N’ Roses’ are Axl Rose, Duff McKagan (bass), Slash (lead guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboard), Richard Fortus (rhythm guitar), Frank Ferrer (drums), and Melissa Reese (keyboard). Alice In Chains are preparing a new album for later this year, while Lenny Kravitz is in the studio wrapping up music for a 2017 release.

Kravitz commented in an interview about the tour:

“I don’t normally do gigs like this. But sometimes you’ve got to do things for the fun of it, for the experience. I’m looking forward to playing with them and celebrating them coming back together.”

On Kravitz’ history with GNR: “I went to high school with Slash,” he says. “I’ve known Axl, Slash and Duff from the beginning. We all came up together, and we worked together. I wrote ‘Always on the Run’ with Slash and he played on ‘Fields of Joy,’ both on my Mama Said album.”

The last time Kravitz joined Guns N’ Roses onstage, the singer was one of a handful of special guests who came out during the band’s Paris concert in June 1992. “I remember that time very well because we were all staying at the Hôtel de Crillon, and we were all in Paris for a few days together,” Kravitz says. “It was a lot of fun.”

Lenny plans to play a mostly rock set as an opening act on this tour: “We’re definitely going to jam and improvise and get loose, and treat it like a festival. Summertime always makes me think of festivals like the Isle of Wight, when Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix played. I love the summer, outdoor concert vibe, so we’ll rock out and improvise and go deep and get psychedelic and out there.”

“I haven’t seen Slash since the [Troubadour] gig, but I’ve texted with him,” Kravitz says. “I’m sure something fun and off-the-cuff is bound to happen.”

Not only has their been rampant speculation for months about whether they would actually reunite, there has been equal amount of chatter among fans and the press as to who would form this lineup. Although in the actual announcement last night Duff McKagan tagged both Matt Sorum and Steven Adler in his post, neither was confirmed in the press release or official announcement by the band. Equally mum has been reclusive rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, former guitarist Gilby Clark, or current GNR band members Richard Fortus and Frank Ferrer. It has been presumed by the media that long time keyboardist Dizzy Reed would also return. It’s possible with the format of Coachella the GNR performances could include some or all past members of the band. We will continue to follow this story as it develops.

Guns N Roses Closes In On Return, Tour Booking Underway

The return of Guns `N Roses is picking up steam in real tangible ways, not just the music industry rumor mill and the internet. Their website recently switched from the Chinese Democracy-style album cover to the more classic “GNR seal logo”. Also fans seeing Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens in some cities were treated to a cryptic trailer with the bands music, crowd noise and other elements indicating concerts or a performance. Another more concrete clue may lay with Alex Martel, the booker of the annual Amnesia Rockfest in Canada. As reported by, in a post to his personal Facebook account, Alex speculated that the band is seeking 3-4 times what the 2015 headliner, System of A Down was paid. SOAD was paid between 1-2 million USD for the gig, meaning that GNR maybe seeing 6-8 million dollars for their appearance. Typically headline bands for major festivals command 1-2 million dollars for the larger and more exclusive appearances. As previously reported by Ghost Cult, the band has been in talks with promoters and planning a comeback in 2016 in some way. This may or may not include all of the original members, but will at least count Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan in its ranks.
