Surely there will be another sci-fi fantasy show quite as great as Game of Thrones. The phenomenal series begins its final six episodes ever tonight on HBO. Not only was the show an epic experience e to watch no matter who ends up on the Iron Throne (or no throne at all), it is clearly the most metal show ever. In addition to the story and the amazing soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi, the show has battle, dragons, magic, zombies (White Walkers), Viking-like Northmen, witchcraft, and wildfire, and direwolves. But also the show has inspired metal covers and tribute songs, bands inspired by the show, a live concert experience based on the music for the show starring metal artists, music in the show and trailers from heavy bands, the actor that played the beloved Hodor character can shred to Megadeth, and even appearances by our favorite dudes in Mastodon in the army of the frozen undead (several times). Get pumped with a new Spotify playlist with a lot of rock and metal bands, and these covers below and happy watching!Continue reading

Blue Oyster Cult – The Temperance Movement Live at Manchester Academy, UK

The room is maybe a third full as The Temperance Movement start, though this quickly rises through their set. I’ve been intrigued to how good they will sound live, liking their stuff but not having previously caught them in a concert setting before and I’m pleased by how easy they make their laid back blues rock sound at this gig, with the quantity of people in at this time a good mark of respect, having seen similar sized bands struggle for one-hundred or so in this large room, one of the larger available in Manchester. The sound is good, if a touch quiet, meaning the emphasis is on clarity rather than loudness, something a number of bands I’ve seen previously in this venue fall victim to. There’s a decent level of applause for them throughout as the room approaches two thirds full, just as we get to the midpoint of their set. As the crowd grows further still, the band continue to please, with the movement of people dancing, combined with the now usual phones recording being the proof of the pudding. A strong showing from the evening’s upstarts, giving the Blue Oyster Cult a pretty high bar to hit. Continue reading

Hear A Classic Song By The Doors In The Trailer For X-Men Dark Phoenix

The final film in the new X-Men Trilogy, X-Men Dark Phoenix is coming out next June (new date). The film directed by Simon Kinberg and starring Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark on Game Of Thrones) just dropped the exciting trailer for the film featured The Doors classic ‘The End’. The choice of the track is fitting, as this is the last film in the series and will likely be the final film in the Fox studios hero movies since Disney will have the future rights to the franchise, and likely to reboot it.Continue reading

HBO’s New “Sharp Objects” Mini-Series Features Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller

HBO’s new Southern Gothic psychological thriller and mini-series event Sharp Objects features an incredible, eclectic soundtrack featuring intense instrumentals, indie music artists, and rock legends like Led Zeppelin and Steve Miller. From Sylvian Esso and The Acid’s lucid ethereal obtuse sounds, to lead character Camille Preaker (played by Golden Globe winner Amy Adams) and her broken iPod Classic Zeppelin playlist on repeat of Led Zepplin II and Led Zeppelin III classics such as ‘I Can’t Quit You Baby’, ‘Thank You’, and ‘What Is And Should Never Be’ among others, the music has almost acted as an extra character in the show. Suspensful, incredibly filmed, well-written, and a great performance from Adams in the lead role, the show has been amazing so far in the two episodes that have aired. Check out this Spotify playlist for the show, hopefully, a portend of a release similar to other HBO shows like Game Of Thrones and Westworld.Continue reading
