Political Punk legends Dead Kennedys have been added as a last-minute addition to Muddy Roots Music Festival. The group, featuring members Klaus Fluoride, East Bay Ray, Ron “Skip” Greer, and D.H. Peligro, will hit the Muddy Roots Truck Stage in Cookeville, Tennessee on Saturday, August 31st. Dead Kennedys join a wide-ranging lineup from punk, metal, roots music, and even some hip-hop fans squeal in unified delight. This year’s event, which will take place from August 30th to September 1st, boasts sets from almost 80 bands, including appearances from MC50, the new incarnation of Wayne Kramer’s MC5, and GZA of Wu-Tang Clan fame who will perform with a live band. The MC50 band includes Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Billy Gould (Faith No More), and Marcus Durant (Zen Guerilla). GZA’s backing band is led by Ramsey Jones, older brother of the late ODB of the Wu-Tang Clan. John Garcia and Nick Oliveri, both formerly of Kyuss will appear with their respective new projects, California punk band Face to Face, Fishbone, alt-country outlaws like Sarah Shook & The Disarmers and Mike and The Moonpies, Possessed By Paul James and The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and many more. As Ghost Cult previously reported, Once Ballroom and Lounge, a.ka. Once Somerville, in Somerville Massachusetts is closing their doors tonight after a bit of a rough go this year. Thankfully, they plan to re-open in mid-September and are already announcing shows. Once has become an integral part of the New England music scene, not only for heavy music but as a real community building location inclusive for all people in the area. In addition to their weekly Tuesday metal nights, the club has hosted many a show that our staff was lucky to be on hand for, including particularly memorable shows from Windhand, Face To Face, Skeletonwitch and the site of the Ghost Cult sponsored Metal For Nepal 2 charity concert. Not only is the venue itself top notch, but the staff, service and the promoters who book the shows there are amazing. Saturday the fairgrounds open at noon for a full day of tats, contests, food and fun. Saturday is headlined by Deftones, who are gearing up for the release of their new album Gore (Warner Brothers). Joining them will be the always fun live Taking Back Sunday. Miss Musink will be crowned on the stage, and Plague Vendor will also play.
Sunday has another “pinch” me type bill with Circa Survive and the reunited Atreyu back to back! Face To Face is also playing so get your spot early and prepare to dance!
