Globally acclaimed Norse music act Wardruna has shared the news via Facebook that they are working on new music! According to leader Einar Selvik (Vikings on History Channel), they are “deep in the writing process for their new album”. Their new album due in 2020 will appear on their new label, Sony/Columbia which they also just announced. The band has also booked further 2020 tour dates, including the UK. They will continue their world tour in 2019 with a date in a few weeks at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, followed by more European tour dates to close out the year. Vocal teacher and YouTuber Beth Roars is back with another video analyzing singers and bands from across music. In this new video, she reviews and critiques Einar Selvik of Wardruna performing “The Vikings” Suite with the Krakow Symphony in Poland. In addition to Wardruna, Selvik is a composer, performer and makes an occasional cameo on the History Channel television series, Vikings.
As their legion of fans will attest to, Swallow The Sun is not your average Death-Doom band. The inventiveness and melancholy melodies lift the Finnish outfit to another plain and, after 2015’s lauded triple album Songs From the North, any release from the sextet is anticipated with a relish akin to hero-worship. Single Lumina Aurea, all fourteen minutes of it, is a precursor to next year’s album When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light (all Century Media) and, although not a track from that album, is an eerie, monumental aperitif – a gateway to the full product. Finnish Death and Doom metal veterans Swallow The Sun have announced two new releases. They will release their new album When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light on January 25th, 2019 via Century Media Records. Prior to that they will release a new single, a standalone 14-minute long epic single track called ‘Lumina Aurea’ December 21st, they will release, both digitally and as 12” EP vinyl version. Norse-inspired music legends Wardruna have shared a live video performance of the song ‘Helvegen’, featuring Aurora on guest vocals. The clip was filmed by Broadstone Film at Bergenhus Fortress in Bergen, Norway on August 22nd, 2018. Sound for the performance was recorded by Stein David Baastad. Mixed by Iver Sandøy/Solslottet Studio who has worked with Wardruna and Enslaved members on their many albums and side projects. Wardruna recently completed their second tour of the US. Norwegian folk band Wardruna are embarking on their first ever West Coast tour this fall, following up on their sold out east coast tour this past spring. Now they announced that Faroese singer-songwriter Eivør will open for the tour. in September. Wardruna has already sold out shows on this latest run in Seattle, Portland, and Boulder. A project originally conceived to celebrate 2014’s bicentenary of the Norwegian Constitution, Skuggsjá – A Piece For Mind and Mirror (Season of Mist) was a collaborative record from Ivar Bjørnson of Enslaved, and Einar Selvik of Wardruna. After the success of that 2016 release, the pair rekindled their partnership and have now written follow-up piece Hugsjá (By Norse Music).
