Jinjer has got to be right up there when it comes to the busiest bands in all of hard music today. Just examining their 2019 schedule leads me to notice that they kicked things off with the Micro EP, toured Europe, launched their first headlining North American run this Fall and somehow still found studio time to assemble their fourth proper LP Macro (Napalm Records) just in time for another Euro trek. Don’t know how they do it, but nothing but respect for our Ukrainian friends even if our president is a vile pig monster who tried extorting you guys for political gain. Continue reading

After The Burial – Evergreen
Having already reviewed Whitechapel this year, it seems only fitting that a new After The Burial record would come along so soon after. Whilst not being in the same sphere of musical style at all both bands are at a similar point in their careers. After The Burial much like Whitechapel are also absolute masters of their sound a band that has remained pretty much unrivaled in terms of musicianship and influence.Continue reading
Sworn Amongst – Reclamation
Sworn Amongst are one of the best-kept secrets in UK Metal – there is something familiar yet different to their approach to modern Metalcore. Indeed new EP Reclamation (Famined Records) is full to the brim with newly added strings to their musical bow.Continue reading

From Sorrow To Serenity – Reclaim
From their self-released debut album, Remnant of Humanity, From Sorrow To Serenity showed they have what it takes to sit alongside comfortably with their peers in the Metalcore/Djent scene. Almost three years has passed on from then and with that time has come growth as they’ve risen through the ranks, supporting the likes of Chelsea Grin and Veil of Maya.
What musical progress have the band made for their sophomore release, Reclaim (Long Branch Records) and does it live up to their first efforts?Continue reading
Ghost Iris – Apple Of Discord

In the face of a fast-moving scene, how can Ghost Iris now adapt? To use a wrestling metaphor, latest album Apple Of Discord (Long Branch Records) is the plucky and ever decent mid-carder suddenly about to make the main event push.Continue reading

Herod – Sombre Dessein
Herod, also known as Herod the Great and Herod I, was a Roman client King of Judea. Or was it the Judean People’s Front? It’s also the name of your new favourite Swiss Progressive Sludge Metal outfit. Now that many qualifiers may seem like damning with faint praise at first, much like a cinematic release being the box office number one but only on a Tuesday in southern Nicaragua, however, the plaudits are more than deserved. Let’s dive into latest release, Sombre Dessein (Pelagic Records), to really get our heads around Herod’s grandeur.Continue reading
