Alice in Chains, when spoken out loud, is understood by all in earshot. Love them or not, every person who says they enjoy rock music in some format knows who they are. One of their finest works was the 1992 classic, Dirt (Columbia Records), which spawned five radio hits, peaked at number six on the Billboard charts, and has sold over five million copies worldwide. Now, twenty-eight years later, the next generation of rock stars have paid tribute to a timeless classic by each taking on a track to cover however they want; thus, was born, Dirt Redux (Magnetic Eye Records).
Marvel’s The Punisher Season 2 drops next week from Netflix, on January 18th, 2019 and promised to be a further step up from the already impressive debut in 2018. Starring Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) The new trailer, the second so far, is a revealing look at the character arcs for the new season and the challenges Frank Castle faces. It also features Alice In Chains all-time classic song “Would?”, which turned twenty-five years old last year, along with the album Dirt. Famously the original Season 1 trailer for the show featured Metallica’s ‘One’. The Netflix Marvel shows, which are winding down their run with Punisher and Jessica Jones Season 3 have frequently used rock and metal classics in the trailers and the occasionally the shows. With the exception of Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana, no other band helped shape the tenor of mainstream 1990s rock and metal in terms of influence than Alice In Chains. Twenty-five years ago today the landmark album, Dirt was born via Columbia Records. Not only was it the bands commercial breakthrough, but it was their creative zenith in many ways, establishing them as a leader in the genre.
