One of the great releases for the latest “Free Bandcamp Day” on July, 3rd 2020 was Denver Doom Metal band Khemmis and their two-song release More Songs About Death Vol. 1. The EP follows April’s release Doomed Heavy Metal. The release features an epic doom cover of Misfits’ Horror Punk classic ‘Skulls’ and ‘A Conversation with Death (Acoustic)’. Both track were recorded by the band remotely during the quarantine from the coronavirus (COVID-1) pandemic. The Misfits cover is especially a revelation and much like the recent EP from their brethren Spirit Adrift, we kind of want an all unplugged release from Khemmis right now. 2015’s Absolution and 2016’s Hunted (20 Buck Spin) saw Denver, Colorado, doomsters Khemmis quickly jump into the hearts of many a fan and metal critic. Their blend of hooks and heaviness (can we call it melodoom?) garnered plenty of attention and some high rankings on a few well-respected end of year lists.
