ALBUM REVIEW: Necrot – Lifeless Birth

Despite crust death metallers Necrot forming in 2011, the Oaklanders’ newest slab is only the trio’s third full-length in their brief-yet-inviting discography.

Essentially, the band doesn’t rush to put out a record, nor do they seem to want to release something before every “i” is dotted and “t” crossed.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Ingested – The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams

11Deathcore stalwarts, Ingested, once again release into the world their own blend of pig squeals, breakdowns, and hypnotizing guitar leads. This collection of slamming tracks makes up their eighth full-length album called The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams (Metal Blade Records). While the subgenre has fallen far from its once prominent standing in the heavy music world, the UK natives put together quality deathcore without trying anything too experimental. Ten tracks hit you right in the face for forty-five minutes before finally letting go.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: The Monolith Deathcult – The Demon Who Makes Trophies Of Men

Avant-Garde Death Metal mentallers with serious swagger and a slew of crazed ideas, Netherlands-based wild bunch The Monolith Deathcult are back.

The Demon Who Makes Trophies Of Men (Human Detonator Records) is an imaginative, irreverent slice of noise that screams “Attack! Attack! Attack!” for much of its grim, punishing but seriously rewarding running time.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Witch Vomit – Funeral Sanctum

If, as the old saying goes, it’s all in a name, then Oregon’s Witch Vomit paints a pretty picture indeed. With albums such as A Scream From The Tomb Below and Buried Deep In A Bottomless Grave already to their name, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the latest full-length studio release Funeral Sanctum (20 Buck Spin) isn’t exactly going to be the most relaxing listening experience.Continue reading

CONCERT REVIEW: Rat King – Abhoria – Whythre Live at Southgate Roller Rink

One of the most beautiful things about music is that there is always more to explore. Having lived near Seattle for more than 10 years, I’ve had a lot of chances to catch some local talent. But occasionally, you miss a band for a while. However, having finally caught local Death Metal/Grindcore trio Rat King, I can say that sometimes you must follow the hype. Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Mutilation Barbecue – Amalgamations of Gore

Come on, you know what this is. A band shows up with a name like Mutilation Barbecue with an album titled Amalgamations of Gore (Maggot Stomp Records)and you know the Green Day crowd’s ears perked up. This will be the talk of the town on TikTok or wherever else annoying teenagers congregate and commiserate about missing out on Hawthorne Heights’ day in the sun. Hell, this one may even make the playlist at your local Starbucks. You just get a feeling, you know. Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Coffins – Sinister Oath

Sinister Oath (Relapse Relapse), the sixth full-length from Tokyo-based Coffins, is a measuring stick for the Death/Doom scene, providing an undeniable starting point for anyone looking to dip their toes into the genre, performers and fans alike. Continue reading
