Ozzy Osbourne, Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz are Nominated For The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Class 2024

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has seemingly favored fewer and fewer Rock bands and very few Metal bands. They have announced their nominees for the class of 2024 and it does include Ozzy Osbourne as a solo artist, (he was inducted in 2006 with Black Sabbath) Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Oasis, on the Metal and Rock side along with Mariah Carey, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Kool & the Gang, A Tribe Called Quest, Sade, and Mary J. Blige are all potential inductees. The fan voting which only counts for 1% towards induction, is open now. Continue reading

EP REVIEW: South of Eden – The Talk

South of Eden, a classic rock-esq band from Ohio, release an EP, The Talk (LAVA Music), to eager supporters, new admirers, and all-around music connoisseurs. The Talk presents listeners with a wonderful classic rock era sound. Think the mid to late seventies through the early nineties; when rock was fun, light, airy, and full of awesome guitar riffs and harmonies that sweep you off your feet and float you away to rock and roll heaven. It may sound like an over-exaggeration, but pick up The Talk and you will smile in understanding.

Judas Priest Makes a Case for Entry Into The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in New Video

Heavy Metal legends Judas Priest has just shared a new video touting their nomination fo the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Packed with their greatest songs and a ton of facts about the bands’ fifty-year card-career makes the case for the band rightly deserving the honor. Not only is “The Priest” one of the longest-running original heavy metal bands ever, elected to multiple Halls of Fame by press and fans, but also as relevant as ever with their 2018 album Firepower (Epic Records). They will celebrate their anniversary as a band next year with the 50 Years of Heavy Metal tour, headline dates, opening for Ozzy Osbourne, and headlining festivals such as Wacken Open Air. The band is nominated for the hall along with other rock and metal icons Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Motörhead (both on the ballot for the first time), Nine Inch Nails, Thin Lizzy, Todd Rundgren, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, as well as stiff competition from Pop, Rock and Rap icons such as possible entrants Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews Band, The Doobie Brothers, the Notorious B.I.G., Pat Benatar, T-Rex, and the iconic singer (and likely lock to get in) Whitney Houston. Judas Priest is doing solidly in the early fan voting (fifth behind DMB, Pat Benatar, The Doobies, and Soundgarden), but the fan vote barely counts in the end and is a symbolic gesture.Continue reading

Judas Priest, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Motörhead, Depeche Mode and Thin Lizzy Lead the Nominees for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame evokes a mixed reaction from hard rock and metal fans, but every year like Charlie Brown and the football, we try to score a win. The nominees for this year’s induction includes Judas Priest, Soundgarden and Motörhead (both on the ballot for the first time), Nine Inch Nails, Todd Rundgren, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews Band, the Doobie Brothers, the Notorious B.I.G., Pat Benatar, T-Rex, Thin Lizzy, and Whitney Houston. The fan-vote is often debated publicly about who should be in or not, but has very little weight in the final voting and is a symbolic gesture. Continue reading

Greta Van Fleet – Anthem Of The Peaceful Army

A lot has been made of Greta Van Fleet in the run-up to the drop of their debut Anthem Of The Peaceful Army (Republic/Lava). They have had a meteoric rise and are now signed to the biggest record label in the world at pretty tender ages. Sure they wail and rule copying the light, shade, and lore of Led Zeppelin, sometimes too well. You’ll find no argument from this writer about Zep being the best rock band ever, and these are good building blocks. On the other hand, quick critics and fans haven’t noted how great these four guys are. At such a young age, you need to judge them and judge slowly. These are the fledgling attempts at figuring it all out, developing as writers, and post-teen brains forming as adults. When you listen to this album, turn off your cynical self and listen to the love and talent pouring out of your speakers. Continue reading

Korpiklaani – Kulkija

Korpiklaani’s tenth album Kulkija (Nuclear Blast) is the tale of a wanderer; “Kulkija” meaning, well, wanderer. I didn’t find this out until after I listened to the album. Learned something new! What isn’t new is the incredible musicianship of Korpiklaani and the compositional depth of their music. Kulkija showcases fourteen songs and spans an hour and twelve minutes where each song tells a tale of our illustrious wanderer and his life during his travels. It isn’t necessary to speak the Finnish language to enjoy Kulkija but I’m sure it adds an insightful layer to the album if you do.Continue reading
