Cypress Hill will celebrate its 2000 album, the epic Rap and Metal double album Skull and Bones (Columbia) today with a livestream Q & A from the band. The album, best known for their huge hit singles ‘Rap Superstar’ and ‘Rock Superstar’, is one of the groups ‘ best and features guest turns from Everlast, Eminem, N.O.R.E., Christian Olde Wolbers (now formerly of) and Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine, and Chino Moreno of Deftones. The Rage Against the Machine Reunion Effectively Ends Prophets of Rage
With the news of the reunion of Rage Against the Machine, Prophets of Rage’s chapter as a band carrying on that legacy is now over. That supergroup included Tom Morello (guitar), Brad Wilk (drums) and Tim Commerford of RATM along with HipHop legends Chuck D of Public Enemy and B-Real of Cypress Hill. Just after the RATM reunion was announced for a series of shows in 2020, including an appearance at next year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Chuck and B-Real each posted to social media confirming their band is done.
Prophets of Rage (RATM, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill) to Release a New Song This Week
In a new interview with Mary Anne Hobbs of BBC Radio 6 Music, Tom Morello says there will be a new Prophets of Rage (RATM, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill) song released this week. This follows the recent stand-alone single ‘Made With Hate’, which released in June. More details about the bands’ new album, their third will be announced soon as well. “In light of the recent gun violence, we’ve got a very timely song that we’re gonna put out hopefully in the next couple of days,” he said. “Then beyond that, I think for PROPHETS OF RAGE, this will be our third studio record and really the one where I think we have to define who we are in 2019 and beyond, rather than just sort of a coming together of groups with notable catalogs, to really find our own sound and to continue to grow.”Continue reading

It started with an old-fashioned idea. The optimism of the hippies met wit the activism of the more rebellious factions of society to create a powderkeg of activism and art in the late 1960s to create Woodstock. The fest could have been an unmitigated disaster that would have made Fyre festival look good. However, it would have a lasting cultural impact even the future decades rode on. With an eye on capturing that spirit again, and raking in a lot of money, the original founders of Woodstock create Woodstock `94: 2 More Days of Peace and Music, but officially it was three days. Beastie Boys Released “Ill Communication” Twenty-Five Years Ago
Beastie Boys were on fo the biggest, most successful groups in the work in the early 1990s when they made Ill Communication (Capitol/Grand Royale), released twenty-five years ago today. Prolific, putting out a new album every 2-3 years, the band was focused on never repeating themselves, and constantly improving. It would have been very easy for them to just keep remaking Licensed To Ill (Def Jam) over and over and that would have been enough for many bands. But Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA (RIP Adam Yauch) kept on changing and evolving. As they had on the previous few albums, they played all the instruments, and played them incredibly well on every track, across multiple genes. They had genius guest stars and collaborators (Q-Tip, Biz Markie, Amery Smith of Suicidal Tendencies, Money Mark, Bobo from Cypress Hill) and put the music first, before everything. Even the production on Ill Communication is incredible, all respect due to the B-E-A-S-T-I-E’s and their frequent partner at this time, Mario Caldato (“Mario C”). Continue reading
