FESTIVAL REVIEW: Bloodstock Open Air 2021 Part 2


 

FRIDAY

With energy levels and festival excitement still high, quality acts such as Welsh black metallers Agrona, Norfolk thrashers Shrapnel, Liverpool doom/sludge merchants Conan, and a reinvigorated and retooled Evile invade the Sophie Lancaster Stage, decimating all before them. Birmingham grindcore legends Napalm Death complete the day’s entertainment with a reliably devastating set, the crowd gathered outside the tent almost as huge as the one inside.

ALBUM REVIEW: Jinjer – Walflowers


Jinjer is a Ukrainian four-piece act that has captivated and charmed varying music scenes all around the world. Just over a decade ago, the band started to make waves in their own country and around Europe when they released their EP Inhale, Don’t Breath. The vibrancy and viciousness of their Modern Metal sound stood out and has led them to be one of the most noteworthy bands in the genre. Now they are getting ready to release their fourth full-length album, Wallflowers (Napalm Records) and the expectations are high. Cradle of Filth, Onslaught, Beholder, Ward XVI,and More Booked for Bloodstock 2021


Bloodstock Open Air (BOA) 2021 is a go and is about two and half months out at 85 days until the fest. In addition to adding a stacked extra night on Wednesday, the fest has announced some additions. Replacing Dimmu Borgir, who have vowed to return in 2022, Cradle of Filth joins the madness. Hot on the heels of their stellar livestream even, this promises to be huge. For the Wednesday bill, joining the fest are Onslaught, Beholder, Ward XVI, as well as Raised By Owls, RAISED and Anakim, both move across to a Wednesday slot, from their previously announced Thursday.

Cradle Of Filth Announce Their New Album – “Existence Is Futile”


 

Gothic Black Metal legends Cradle of Filth have revealed the title of their forthcoming 13th studio album – Existence Is Futile via Nuclear Blast Records later in 2021. The new release will be the 13th studio album by the band to date – was recorded at frequent studio home Grindstone Studios with producer Scott Atkins and features artwork from Arthur Berzinsh, creator of the last two album artworks in the Cradle back canon. Powermetal loving Canadian band Striker has won The 2020 JUNO Award for Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year for their album Play To Win (Record Breaking Records/Independent). The Awards show was streamed live on TV and online. The 2020 JUNO Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) live ceremony was postponed this spring due to the coronavirus. Tonight the awards show will announce all of their winners, including the award for Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year. The nominees are Lindsay Schoolcraft (ex Cradle of Filth) for Martyr (Cyber Proxy), Kobra And The Lotus Evolution (Napalm/The Orchard), Single Mothers Dine Alone Through A Wall (The Orchard), and StrikerPlay To Win (Record Breaking Records/Independent).
