Hard to believe that we are rapidly approaching one year of living with the Covid-19 pandemic. What may be the strangest part of this forgotten year is that we as people have begun to normalize the lockdown. Hollywood tentpole films now debut on streaming services, sporting events march on with empty stands and the only way to catch live music is either dusting off concert film of yesteryear or watching a band’s official live stream. Gatecreeper is the latest to try their hand in a bare venue and played a blistering set from Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix.
Megadeth bassist David Ellefson will release “Simple Truth”, the new single from his solo band ELLEFSON, in April, with all proceeds going to Italian COVID-19 relief. The track, co-written by Ellefson and vocalist Thom Hazaert, with Italian guitarist and drummer Andy Martongelli and Paolo Caridi, will appear on the upcoming follow-up to David’s 2019 release Sleeping Giants. The album is a compilation featuring several new songs and reworkings of previous Ellefson instrumental solo material co-written and produced by Ellefson and Hazaert. Sleeping Giants was released as a companion album “soundtrack” to Ellefson’s 2019 biography More Life With Deth, also co-written with Hazaert. The group worked on the album remotely, recording tracks in Italy, London, Phoenix, and Wisconsin during the quarantine.Continue reading
Two greats from Megadeth history reunite again as shredder extraordinaire Chris Poland has signed a new record deal with Combat Records, the classic Heavy Metal label re-launched in 2018 by David Ellefson. Combat will release a deluxe reissue of Chris’s 1990 solo debut, “Return To Metalopolis”, in November. Originally released on Enigma Records in 1990, Metalopolis was Poland’s return to the stage after his 1987 departure from Megadeth. Metalopolis showcases Poland’s signature jazz-infused thrash/rock style, in a collection of timeless instrumental compositions.Continue reading
I’m beginning to notice a bit of a trend amongst modern Death Metal bands, and by beginning to notice I mean this has probably been happening for a while now. Loads of newer acts like Horrendous and Gruesome are quite eager to strap on the Nike high tops, leather jackets and reminisce about the good old days when guys like Chuck Schuldiner and his outfit Death were blowing the Thrash dudes out of the water with albums like Scream Bloody Gore or Spiritual Healing. Undead Prophecies’ Sempiternal Void (Listenable Records) sure as shit sounds like they’ve been inhaling the ash of whatever’s left of Morrisound Recordings.Continue reading
Hell yes! Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy guitarist Marc Rizzo has announced that his new solo album, Rotation, will hit stores on March 30th via Combat Records/EMP Label Group/Amped in North America, and Combat/SPV in Europe. Continue reading

Combat is, of course, the label that released the classic Megadeth records Killing Is My Business, Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying, So Far… So Good… So What and Rust In Peace among many other classics.Continue reading
