CONCERT REVIEW: Deftones – Gojira Live at Michigan Lottery Amphitheater

It was a perfect spring evening last Tuesday in Sterling Heights when Alternative Metal giants Deftones brought their tour to town. The sun was shining, and the birds were singing when a line of traffic started to form outside the Michigan Lottery Amphitheater. Cars were bumper to bumper as they tried to squeeze their way into the sold-out show at this Detroit suburb open-air venue. The opening act of the tour, VOWWS, could not make the gig so the second band on the roster, the mighty Gojira opened up the night.

Today, ††† (Crosses) the synth-pop duo comprised of Chino Moreno of Deftones and producer/multi-instrumentalist Shaun Lopez of Far are back with with two new original songs: “Initiation” and “Protection” as well as a stunning new video for “Initiation.” The two-song set and visual is their first new music of 2022 following their late 2021 single release; their cover for the song “Goodbye Horses” made popular by Q Lazarus in the movie The Silence of The Lambs.

Crosses Surprise Releases New Cover Song and Video – “The Beginning Of The End”

Deftones tease “White Pony” Remix Album – “Black Stallion”

As we previously reported, Deftones announced a few months back that they will release a remix album of their legendary third album White Pony (Maverik), Black Stallion when the former album is reissued later in 2020 for its 20th anniversary. The band has now shared a teaser of the release, said to be an EP. White Pony will be released as it was intended, in a new tracklisting. The news was shared first by ThePrp.com. Deftones’ Career-Defining Album “White Pony” Turns 20

Success has a way of messing with a good band. First world problems compared to the millions of bands that never make it, sure. However, so often when an emerging band that has fast become a genre leader, big corporate record labels can foul up the flow. This was almost the case of White Pony by Deftones, and the case where the hype was lived up to by pencil pushers, bean counters, and greed almost wrecked the game. White Pony is the band’s pivotal third album, where they built off the stylistic changes that came in with Around The Fur (Maverick) and pushed their sound further than before. In the process, they severed themselves far from the Nu-Metal wave that was exploding at the time and firmly created a new camp of “Deftones Music” as a category. Deftones Are Looking at a Fall Release for Their New Album, May Release Lost Album “Eros” As an EP

In a new interview for Download TV as part of their weekend-long Virtual Download Festival, Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham revealed the band is aiming at a September release for their new album. In a previous interview, frontman Chino Moreno had said the album was nearly done and the band had hoped for a summer release. The band may also release their “lost” album Eros as an EP, which has been unreleased since it was recorded and finished at the time of original bassist Chi Cheng’s tragic auto accident that ultimately led to his passing in 2013. The band performed the first track anyone has ever heard from the mythical album, ‘Smile’, last fall at their own Dia Los Del Deftones Festival.

CLASSIC ALBUMS REVISITED: Deftones Released “Diamond Eyes” Ten Years Ago

Deftones, even at their best, have been a band of dichotomies. That is what makes them a special band in the history of heavy music: opposing forces pulling and pushing them apart and back again. They may have been coming apart at the seams in the run-up to making Diamond Eyes (Reprise), and you couldn’t blame them. If you follow the band closely, you know the history. The band was nearly done tracking their highly anticipated album Eros in the fall of 2008, when founding bassist Chi Cheng was in a car wreck, on his way home from a funeral. Chi was left in a vegetative state, and the band was in shock. As Chi fought for his life (he passed in 2013, RIP), the band was left wondering what to do. They wanted to make music, but the experience with their best friend caused them to shelve Eros, never to be heard (almost never). When they came back together, the results were unexpected and wild. Deftones Chino Moreno Unsure The Band Will Meet Its Goal of a Summer 2020 Release

In a new interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno chatted for a brief interview “At Home With” playlist. Chino talked about the forthcoming Deftones album, the 10th anniversary of Diamond Eyes, working with longtime producer Terry Date, how the band has stayed together so long and overcome hardships, his approach to vocals, making music every day, and the possibility of re-releasing White Pony. Specifically, Chino cast some doubt on the bands’ new album seeing a summer release without being able to tour behind it.
