What new Rock and Metal records are you looking forward to this week?
If there’s one redeeming quality to Carnifex’s new record, it’s guitarist and relative newcomer Neal Tiemann. The string slayer’s adept finger-tapping during boisterous guitar solos does its best to keep Necromanteum (Nuclear Blast Records) afloat despite a myriad of deficiencies.
Say what you will about Deathcore, but that goddamn subgenre refuses to die or give an inch. More power to it, I say. While it may not have reached the commercial heights of its sister subgenre, Metalcore, one could argue that that the former has been just as active as the latter.
The Chaos & Carnage Tour 2022 or as I’m referring to it, “Deathcore Christmas”, came to Big Night Live and left nothing in its wake. First-timers, party starters, with new and old school legends came to play.
Death Metal rising act Undeath has shared a new-ish track – “Diemented Dissection” via Decibel Magazine online. The track originally featured as part of Decibel’s Flexi Series. Say what you will about Deathcore, it is nothing if not persistent. Not that the idea of mixing Death Metal and Hardcore is a new one (i.e., Suffocation) but when the term deathcore is applied today it recalls the halcyon years between 2007 and 2012 when a young man’s worth was determined by his throat tattoo, the size of his gauges and his MySpace networking skills. If you had a pig squeal, a breakdown and a dream it seemed like you too could be handed an Earache Records deal. But when did that dream end? Enigmatic Progressive Death Metal Band Rivers of Nihil have teased a new album, music, and music video. The one-minute teaser was shared to YouTube with album artwork popping up in other places such as social media and the Bandsintown app. The ominous shot of the band says “The Work” begins July 27th, apparently when a song/video will drop, like their new album, from Metal Blade Records. It remains to be confirmed if the “The Work” is the single title or album title. The teaser has some pretty dramatic intro music too. They shared a previous teaser a week ago which you can see below. The band will also participate in the Up From The Sewer Tour, headed up by The Black Dahlia Murder, After The Burial, Carnifex, and Undeath.
Legendary Melo-death band The Black Dahlia Murder will embark on a headline tour of North America as the first foray back to full-time touring. The tour features After The Burial, Carnifex, Rivers of Nihil, and Undeath as openers. Dubbed “Up From The Sewer Tour 2021”, this will be the first trek in support of The Black Dahlia Murder’s critically acclaimed album, Verminous (review here), released in April 2020 via Metal Blade Records.
