CONCERT REVIEW: Metallica – Pantera – Mammoth WVH – Prong Live at MetLife Stadium


 

The Metallica Family descended on New Jersey from all around the world for the kickoff date of the 2024 North American tour of Metallica’s M72 tour. On the back of the excellent 72 Seasons album released this spring on Blackened Recordings (read our review here). Reports from the European tour were high, especially their impressive turn at Download Festival. The two shows, per city, no repeats in the setlist is matched only in its ambition by the incredible in-the-round staging and all weekend-long Metallica Takeover events, including pop-shops, a Metallica film festival, side concerts with Metallica-related bands, a Ross Halfin photo book Q & A book signing and more.

ALBUM REVIEW: Metallica – 72 Seasons


 

And so the Metallica riff machine rolls on! forty years after their debut album Kill Em All (1983) laid the blueprint for the Thrash Metal genre, they return with record number … well that’s kind of up for debate depending on how you view their discography, and whether you count live albums, covers album and erm collaborations. But 72 Seasons (Blackened Recordings Inc) is here, their latest artistic statement four decades into a career that has seen them rise from the US West Coast underground, to become the most successful Heavy Metal band of all time. Robert Trujillo Joined Metallica 20 Years Ago Today


Today (February, 24th, 2023) is the 20th anniversary of bassist Robert Trujillo joining Metallica. Metallica marked the occasion by sharing a post on social media with a throwback photo from the day, with the caption: “20 years of @robtrujillo and counting! Our brother joined the band #OnThisDay in 2003.” Robert has played on the last three Metallica releases: 2009’s Death Magnetic, 2016’s Hardwired… to Self Destruct, S&M 2 (2020), and the upcoming 72 Seasons (Blackened Recordings).

Metallica Cancels Its Vinyl Subscription Club for 2023 Due to Global Vinyl Delays


Metallica has sent a message out to subscribers of their vinyl Subscription Club that they are suspending the club for 2023, with no idea when it will resume in the future. Citing the demand for vinyl and global level delays, they canceled arguably the most successful vinyl subclub for rock or metal. Kirk Hammett to Release His Debut Instrumental Solo EP – “Portals”


Kirk Hammett of Metallica makes his solo debut with Portals, a four-song instrumental EP to be released April 23rd, 2022 via Blackened Recordings across digital platforms, on CD, and as a Record Store Day Exclusive Ocean Blue Vinyl EP (including a download card). It will be the first release on the label that is not a Metallica release. True to its title, Portals is a collection of gateways to myriad musical and psychic destinations. Recorded in multiple locales ranging from Los Angeles to Paris to Oahu, Portals is both the result of musical and metaphysical journeys. Metallica to Release Exclusive Color Vinyl Editions of their Classic Albums via Wal-Mart


Much banter has gone down in the press this year about the pandemic legit ruining the industry, but one band that seems somewhat bulletproof is Metallica. The biggest Rock/Metal band ever in terms of sales dominates streaming with 1 Billion Spotify streams in 2019 (the band has not released 2020 data yet) and over 6000 units (usually over 2k physical copies) of The Black Album alone sold weekly. They also sell tons of music via their website and www.metallicalive.com too and had a new release in 2020 with S & M2 (Blackened Recordings). Now the band is teaming up Wal-Mart for a series of limited edition color-vinyl variants of six albums: Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, …And Justice for All, Metallica (aka The Black Album), and Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. Metallica to Perform First Show of 2020, to be Broadcast One Night Only at Drive-In Theaters


Metallica will take the stage for the first time since the September 2019 S&M2 concerts that opened Chase Center in San Francisco. Metallica will be the first rock band to be featured in the Encore Drive-In Nights series, with a full set showing August 29 at hundreds of drive-in and outdoor theaters across the United States and Canada. The show will be shot for the Encore Drive-In Nights Series at a location near the band’s Northern California headquarters and will subsequently be edited and mixed by Metallica’s award-winning production team to the highest standards possible. The concert, the band’s first show in nearly a year, will feature material from throughout their near four-decade career and provide Metallica fans with an intimate, unique, and truly memorable concert experience.

Metallica Joins Venture Buying Song Catalogs and Other Intellectual Property


According to a published report by Variety, Metallica and longtime co-manager Cliff Burnstein are among the parties involved in a new intellectual-property acquisition venture Worldwired Music IP Fund. The venture, which also includes former Fender president/COO Matt Janopaul and former Sony/ATV co-president Rick Krim, will be looking to snap up a series of song catalogs as part of its portfolio.Continue reading
