Soundgarden Makes a Statement in Response to Vicky Cornell’s Lawsuit

Less than one week after Vicky Cornell lodged another lawsuit against the surviving members of Soundgarden, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron, have responded to the suit in reference to unreleased material from Chris Cornell. In her lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court Western District of Washington, Cornell said that the living members of the band offered her “the villainously low figure of less than $300,000,” despite having allegedly received a $16 million offer from an outside music investor for Soundgarden’s master recordings. Cornell died via suicide in 2017. Soundgarden’s last studio album was King Animal, released in 2012 on Republic Records.

Vicky Cornell Sues Surviving Soundgarden Members Again Over Chris Cornell Music Rights

According to TMZ, late Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, has again sued the surviving members of the band over the buyout price for her stake in the band. She had previously launched a lawsuit against the band over the masters Chris recorded that were meant to be songs for the final Soundgarden album, which was in progress when Chris died. She may be vying to put these songs out as a solo release from the late signer/songwriter. Cornell died via suicide in 2017 at age 53.

Chris Cornell’s Widow Says Unreleased Soundgarden Music “Will See The Light of Day”

Last week the estate of Chris Cornell surprise dropped a covers album, touted to be the final studio recordings of Chris, No One Sings Like You Anymore. Recorded by Chris in 2016, the LP features his renditions of John Lennon’s “Watching The Wheels”, Ghostland Observatory’s “Sad Sad City”, Harry Nilsson’s “Jump Into The Fire”, Carl Hall’s “You Don’t Know Nothing About Love”, Electric Light Orchestra’s “Showdown”, Terry Reid’s “To Be Treated Rite”, Lorraine Ellison’s “Stay With Me Baby” (originally released for HBO’s show “Vinyl”), “Get It While You Can”, popularized by Janis Joplin, and a new studio recording of “Nothing Compares 2 U”, written by Prince. Chris’s cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Patience.” As reported by Blabbermouth.net, in a new interview with USA today promoting the album, Vicky Cornell was asked if more of Chris’ music would see the light of day.

Soundgarden’s Badmotorfinger Turns 25

Submitted for your approval, the year is 1991. Already a bang up year for monumental rock and metal releases, Soundgarden releases Badmotorfinger on the now defunct A&M records sets the heavy music world on its ear. Sure in the climate where Nirvana’s Nevermind was climbing the charts and Metallica’s “Black Album” was already a legit hit too. Residing right in the middle, just as the “Seattle” craze was capturing people wad Soundgarden. That Badmotorfinger would go on to be the defining moment in their career wasn’t a surprise considering their history.
